Last minute panic. Natural maple cabs or honey stained maple
Comments (6)We chose a light maple finish for our remodel. It seems like the trend is white or a dark cherry which are beautiful but didn't seem right for our kitchen. Our old cabinets were a dark stained oak, with light counters and we wanted to change it up. Now, we've got the light cabinets with a dark counter top and I love it. The light finish just brightens up the whole room. I love white kitchens because they are just so bright, cheery and clean looking. But all our wood trim and interior doors are stained medium brown and white just didn't seem to belong with that. (Love white trim and doors too, but don't have the energy right now to paint it all!) The dark cherry is lovely too but my old cabinets were dark and I needed a change. The light color of the new cabinets lighten up the room, but keeps the warm feel to it that I wanted. We originally wanted the natural finish, but chose a light stain shade, hoping they wouldn't yellow so much if they had a stain instead of just the clear coat. We installed under cabinet lights to offset the dark counters too....See MoreLight stained maple vs. painted maple cabinets
Comments (1)i did honey stained maple in our last kitchen (stainless appliances) but i really didn't like it at all when it was installed. the color was too close to the floor. they looked too similar. just something else to think about... good luck!...See MoreWhat color of granite to go with honey maple cabinets?
Comments (6)I have a light maple cab but have Yellow River granite. It has so many colors in it that it just about goes with anything. I too would suggest you look on line to see what type of granite appeals to you. Lots of movement, plain, bold colors or subdued. Also, go to the granite or stone yards. It will make all the difference in the world. I was going for the quiet peaceful Zen look until I saw my Yellow River. I went with mind busting granite. I love the movement. It is so much more interesting for me. Excuse the templating lines on the granite, below. Let us know what you end up choosing. There is a lot out there. Do bring your cab and flooring to the stone yard. It again will make a difference on how it will look. Also, if they have samples, take them home with you to see how they wear and tear and how they look in different lights....See MoreRefinishing golden/honey oak cabinets to a gray stain
Comments (19)eam44, she did in her first post, which is eerily similar to the image nosoccermom just posted! Keep in mind that anything wax really needs to be sealed, no matter what these blogs claim. Wax come off with Windex (anything ammonia) and even vinegar, for those who think that's the way to go. It's NOT good in bathrooms or kitchens. Or outside, for that matter. There's a whole "revolution" of heresy among bloggers who regret selling their stuff with such non-durable finishes. Looks great, but lasting? Particularly for families with children? HAHAHAHHAHHAHA I find the efforts addicted2decorating when through totally unnecessary. Notice she took it down to no finish. I simply used gray stain, whereas she worked her @ss off. Citristrip doesn't require sanding, nor does wiping stain off. Go figure. (I like her blog, though.)...See Morecgrimes1955
