Replace honey oak doors w/white oak quarter sawn?
Comments (7)I bought quarter sawn red oak cabinets for my previous kitchen and although the doors were quartersawn, the interior faces of the cabinets were regular red oak veneer. That's the way they were manufactured. Since the doors were full overlay, the parts of the cabinets that were not quartersawn were never really visible and I had "furniture" sides so those were also quartersawn. However, red oak and white oak are different species, with the white oak tending more towards browner tones. If I were you I would buy a sample door and see how the color match goes with your current boxes. Or you can buy an unfinished door and see if you can play with stain to match the color. You might be able to find a stain close to your current cabinets in tone that will be good with the honey oak. ....See MoreI want to paint my honey oak kitchen cabinets either a cream or gray .
Comments (17)I have an oak kitchen that I also find drab. Much easier to do a cool backsplash or counter or flooring than to go to the trouble of paining cabinets that were not meant to be painted. Tons of work, and the paint color will eventually become dated and the new owners will either want to rip out or refresh. So not a good investment of time and effort, IMHO. Read up on toning down oak, lots of suggestions. A cool backsplash would draw in the eye and snazz it up much easier, I think. But if you really want to paint, paint away. But I'm not a fan of sad grey kitchens no matter how "warm" the grey, it is mud and rain. White or cream, IMHO. Or go for a color you love, and figure "après moi, le déluge" as far as how it looks to potential buyers. A lot of folks tear stuff out no matter what, to put their taste stamp on things . . ....See MoreNeed help working around our 80’s honey oak cabinets and black counter
Comments (37)That is not a particularly traditional kitchen. And in my opinion, not necessarily so elegant. It also looks like that kitchen has white cabinetry. There is a ton of contrast in that space you show above, and a lot of ”shine” - on the ceiling alone. The light blue tones of the ceiling may evoke some degree of calmness in the space, though; light/pastel blues on a ceiling can do that, and they can also make the room appear more spacious/ the ceiling appears higher. But the main thing that is saving that space from seeming completely chaotic is the lighting. Notice the lighting in that space. If that space had your fluorescent lighting, it would be a nightmare. Look - there is nothing wrong with your kitchen. Really. Wood for cabinetry is very much en vogue right now - plus is classic. All types of wood are trending, including yours. And the slab front type styling on your cabinetry is also trending. There is also nothing wrong with the finish (shine) on the current granite. It is classic stone, and is not out of date. Would a piece of marble with some shine be considered out of date now? No. These are all personal preferences, at this point - not mandates for what is in style or not. The lighting in your space is the MAIN ISSUE. And if the lighting has not yet been settled, you are not even seeing the space accurately. Your space is really MUCH MORE cohesive and ”calm” than the kitchen in the pic you are showing above. Nothing wrong with your black appliances, either. They worked well with the counters and cabinets. But the stainless is fine, too - and will help to integrate your floor....See MoreWhich White Paint with this very clean, GOLDEN OAK (not honey} FLOOR?
Comments (6)I used Behr Premium Plus Ultra Pure White (eggshell for walls, satin for trim) and Behr Premium Plus Interior Ceiling Paint. The eggshell paint does have a modest sheen so wall imperfections are visible when the wall is viewed from a severe angle. Behr offers its Ultra Scuff Defense, a flat paint which it claims to be scuff-resistant and suitable for high-traffic areas for which flat paint is not normally suited. The Ultra Pure White looks fine with my natural stained, white oak floors....See Morelazy_gardens
