How do you guys do it?

I'm a new gardener and have quickly found the beauty of hostas but mine look nothing like most of the pictures you post of your gardens! Some are browning on the ends, some in the middle and I think slugs are having a feast.

I've been reading a bit and sprayed them with ammonia last night but it's raining again today. I'm not complaining, we desperately need the rain.

This has been a very weird year weather wise - we had temps in the 90's for a couple of weeks in June and any rain that was in the area completely bypassed me until the past two days.

I watered when the soil was dry but maybe too much or not enough?

I'll get some pictures tonight and post them but they are no prize winners! ;)

I have Abiqua Drinking Gourd, Sum and Substance, Halycon, Francee, Krossa Regal (I think), Blue Mammoth, Stained Glass (looking terrible), Lemon Lime, and Sun Power.

Also planted are Japanese Painted Ferns, Autumn Fern, Heuchera, Lenten Roses, a Toad Lily and some Astilbe that are crunchy due to the heat.

I am very disappointed in the Astilbe. Only one isn't dried out and I watered them more than the rest.

Live and learn, I guess.
