Thanks Lisa! My feeders and houses aren't too close to the house...I've never had them near the windows. But I just made a 2nd feeder and put it a little closer to the house, for easier spying. I'm slowly creeping the original feeder away and around to the front of the house. In my wildest dreams, I will have a pair in front and a pair in back of the house. There has been a lot of activity around the houses with chickadees, blues, and sparrows, but no one seems to have settled yet (I'm in MD.) This will be my 3rd season with bluebirds but I never had the first nesting: one year the sparrows chased them off, and the 2nd year chickadees took that house and the blues went elsewhere (even though I have 3 houses) so I don't know what to expect at this time of year in Maryland. I'm much better prepared at this point, with sparrow traps ready to go and plenty of mealworms. With some luck, I'll be counting incubation days soon! Thanks for listening! Ann

I am from Rhode Island Trail is in northern RI Bluebirds are not hardy there flocks crash will high snow levels. And cold. Mild seasons they expand there local numbers. When there found dead in spring means there food supply was low and they expired. You will also see some dead threw out spring after a late cold snap the birds will just end up missing but we know it was the late cold snap. Many are weaken from the trip north once they show up and winter returns large numbers perish. It weeds out the old and sick. Ray

Hello, I have a problem with my beloved bluebirds I am hoping someone can help me with. We had a successful fledging a few weeks ago and then they came back and built another nest. Laid four eggs. I went out and one was destroyed and on the ground. The other three were in the very bottom of the nest making it hard for mama to even know they were there. A few days later she started building a nest on top of that nest. When I saw it, I pulled the other nest up on top of it so she could see the three eggs. Now she has laid two new eggs so far in with the old ones. And the nest is very high now and close to the hole. What will happen with old and new eggs in there? And should I try to squish the nest down from the hole more?
