Help installing Bosch 800 series dishwasher

Hi all, we just purchased a new Bosch 800 series dishwasher (with help from past threads on this forum!) and are getting ready to install it. The instructions are pretty vague, and I was hoping people here could give me some guidance on how it should be done. This is the version that has the controls on the top of the door. Our main question is, should it be installed so that the top of the door is visible so the controls can be accessed when the door is closed? In this case, the door will stick out in front of the cabinets, rather than being flush with them - is that right? If we install it with the front of the door flush with the cabinets then we won't be able to see the controls when the door is closed.

Assuming that the door will be in front, what do we do about the rubber gasket pieces around the outside of the door? I'm not referring to the actual door seal. I'm talking about the gasket pieces along the front flange. If we install it so the door is in front of the cabinets these gaskets will also stick out in front of the cabinets. What are we supposed to do with them?

Most people install them with the controls hidden under the counter. Top controls are only active when the door is open.
BTW. Bosch has an Installation help line for people installing their products. 800-554-9509 I think they only help with the actual install but not pre-planning.

We have the same machine and installed it like jakvis said (the controls are hidden). To me, the whole purpose of controls on the top is to hide them - if I wanted to see controls, I would have gotten the one with controls on the front.

Run tang through it. Cleans everything out so there is nothing to create the smell and gives it a pleasant citrus smell for a bit. Seeing how clean it gets my dishwasher makes me never want to drink it, though! I usually sprinkle about 3/4 of the container into the bottom of the dishwasher and then also fill the detergent compartment.

Hi everyone, Thanks to all who responded to my questions about Bosch dishwasher. I was already planning to buy Bosch, but my KD comments about Bosch made me doubt my choice. Anyhow, after reading comments from all of you, my final choice has been made about dishwasher. It is going to be Bosch 800 series!! Anyhow, can I use any dishwasher detergent for Bosch or is there any particular brand recommended? I prefer to use liquid detergent. Iharpie......I am a tea drinker and all of my mugs and cups have tea stains. But twice a week I put 1/2 tsp. of bleach (which is meant for white clothes) in each mug and let the mugs sit for a couple of minutes and then you wash the mugs with dish soap. mholtz, I went through this install process, and learned a few things. I'll show you what I did and hopefully it will make it easier for you. First, the easy part... 1/8" at the sides should be fine. I used about 3/16" but it would work with 1/8". The Bosch panel template assumes a few things. First, it assumes that you will mount the dishwasher as high as it will go, up against the bottom of the counter. And that you will mount the wood panel flush with the top of the dishwasher door. If you install it like that with a door taller than 30 1/8", it will bind at the bottom baseboard when opening. The bottom is where the problem with the taller panel occurs. However, for best appearance you want your panel taller, to match the bottom and top of the adjacent doors and/or drawer stacks, with a consistent gap under the counter edge. You should get your panel made to that height, ignoring the 30 1/8" limit. To make this work however, you need to mount the dishwasher lower, with the wood panel higher than the door, to allow it to fully open. It's tough to explain in words, so I made a couple of diagrams. Example 1 is following the template directions, but a taller door binds at the bottom. Example 2 is what I ended up doing to accommodate the taller panel.

I still love my first Bosh Dishwasher. The 800 series with the recessed handle is so quiet, dishes come out cleaner than any dishwasher I ever owned, dishes are all dry (using Sanitize and Crystal dry) with maybe just some water in top of the mugs or in some creases on the plastic, plastic and stainless silverware are all dry and clean, love not having the heated dry so I can put plastic containers on any shelf, love the recessed handle so I can reach inside my cabinets better since I am very petite, love that the dishwasher does not stick out from the counter like my KitchenAid dishwasher did, love how easy the stainless steel is to keep clean and looking nice, love how it looks, and I love how the store I chose installed it with the plug under my sink and took away the old dishwasher without any extra charges for he plug and I did not have to hire an electrician like the big box stores said I would.

IMO, no people install hidden control exposed when the door is closes (hence hidden control). Preferably, the door should flush with the rest of the cabinet if the depth of the opening allows. Your model should have other means to show the status of the DW, such as projecting colored light and/or remaining time on the floor, etc. You are free to open the door when the DW is working to check additional status information and/or change settings/programs. Actually the control and/or display may not even work when the door is closed as they are supposed to be hidden. The gasket you mentioned should kinda be bent or compressed against the sides of the DW opening so that noise or moisture is somewhat blocked.

I installed a Bosch 800 for my FIL a couple weeks ago. Yes, the controls are under the counter top, and the rubber flange gaskets align with the face frame on either side.

Okay, thanks everyone! That's what I initially thought, but DH said that wasn't right because we wouldn't be able to see the controls when it's closed. If it's flush with the cabinets, then the gasket also shouldn't stick out. We will give it a shot. Thanks for all your help!

Yes they should be hidden. That is the whole point of a fully integrated DW-that the controls are hidden from view. The red floor light goes off to tell you wen the cycle is done. Plus there is a series of beeps if you happen to be around to hear them.

Red light is all you need to be aware of. When it's on it's running (helpful because it's so darn quiet), and when it is done it will beep at you. Controls should be hidden under the counter; you adjust them just before you shut it (at least, I do).

Thanks, everyone! We got it installed, though it was a bit tricky since all the electrical and plumbing lines need to be in the bottom rear corners, and the old installation wasn't that way. We had to move both plumbing and electrical lines. But, it's in now and running well. Looks great with the door flush and all the controls hidden. And you're right - so quiet it's hard to tell it's running except for the red light. Also love the top rack! Thanks again for your help!

I am installing a Bosch 800 series dishwasher. I have attached the top mounting brackets to the counter top but still get a little movement side to side. Am I able to put screw through the dishwasher sides and connect to cabinet frame.
