Coyotes eat everything they can dead or alive & are opportunists. Here in AZ they take many peoples pets-dogs,cats. They can and will take down a full grown fox or good sized dog or lrg. cat especially if there are more than one coyote hunting together. In Southern Ohio where my sister lives they actually have a coyote watch system set up;when someone sees a coyote in their yard or close by they call a special city number and then a call system actually calls all the houses in the area letting everyone know to keep watch over their pets when they are let out in the yards. We as people have built buildings, streets everywhere and the coyotes have and will continue to adapt to the environment that we are overtaking. They keep smaller animals (rabbits, mice, rats)under control. Everything on the planet has it's purpose even if we humans finds whatever it is to be a nuisance.

"OP said picture was taken in the Florida panhandle...Navarre." Yes, they did. But that photo wasn't taken in Florida. The vegetation in the background isn't right and this species of fox doesn't occur anywhere near Florida. Everything about that animal looks like a Swift Fox (Vulpes macrotis) to me although the hair is a bit short. But the size of the ears, color, shape of the body, etc. all look like macrotis to me. And the habitat in the background further supports this ID....assuming it was shot in North America? I've seen a lot of photos on the internet with the wrong location listed. The Cross Fox (and all the other color patterns of Red Fox) have a heavier muzzle and smaller ears.

Last night around 11:00 I walked from the house to the barn, and brought a flashlight with me. As I walked along the driveway I shone the flashlight down the hill toward the edge of the woods about 100 feet away, and saw several pairs of eyes shining back at me. I realize now they were probably white-tailed deer, watching carefully to see whether/when they should run away, but at the time I was convinced they were coyotes watching for me to turn my back so they could make their move. I found a site that lists the "eyeshine" color of various animals, and for deer it says "Silvery with green or yellow tinge" and for coyote is says "Yellow-green", so that's not very helpful. Also I just noticed that later on in that list it included the following: Mammal....................... Seals............ Red......Dull Reptile...........................Alligator.........Red..... Bright Red-orange to bright pink Other.............................Bigfoot...........Red Other.............................Vampire.........Red Good to know in case I'm ever in Bigfoot country or Transylvania

There is a gray treefrog (Hyla versicolor) as well. That's the trill sound that happens twice.
