Comments (2)This is called a raked return. I think the biggest issue you're going to have is the the bottom section wasn't left long enough to be able to miter the corner. The tops section could have been finished by coping. You're going to need a very skilled finish carpenter to fix that for you....See MoreStair moulding advice
Comments (9)Those look great! i will get a picture of ours so you can see what we did . We removed stapled carpet and pad and the ugly strip was showing. My contractor pulled it off and put on this trim on each step with his nail gun … tiny nails. Painter caulked and painted. looks great. Edited to add when I expand your picture the tack strips look like what we had . They can’t be redeemed in my experience. The new molding will finish your beautiful project perfectly. Comments (3)You often see strange juxtapositions like that but no, it doesn't look good. And it's as much the fault of the older part as it is the newer. I think you will have to brainstorm with your carpenter and sketch some things on paper to come up with a good solution....See Moreroof35
