Getting out of a 'Funk'/Getting rid of distractions
Comments (9)Misti, I know from where you speak!! I have ADD, so getting focused is a daily struggle at our business and at home. I make lists, even if it's not something that will be accomplished for weeks. If you see things as one task at a time and not the whole picture I find it easier not to get overwhelmed. If you'd like to learn to sew I can certainly help you out even long distance. My first suggestion is to pickup a sewing book Readers Digest has one that's my all time fav! or Simplicity has a great one I don't recall it's name but it's spiral bound, that's the one I used when I was teaching beginner's. If there is a Joann Fabrics (their patterns ate always 50% off) in your area check out the pattern books for patterns for nifty pillows. Kate's right you two have been working hard. Kick back for a bit. Remember Rome wasn't built in a day! I've still got boxes that need to be unpacked and I moved here 4 years ago. Don't sweat the small stuff. If I can help further with sewing advice email me @ marion@chromehorseperformance.com. I'd love to help! Marion...See MoreWhat will you get rid of/want to try?
Comments (8)Hmmmmm... Getting rid of: Liriope muscari; they were controllable early on, but geez, did they spread! Too many unmanagable clumps lining the bed in the front of the house (maybe 10). I removed 3 last year and replaced with salvias. Much better ;) Rose of Sharon (lilac/red throat); really don't like it, never did, but I can't throw anything out. Will relocate to work ;) Already purchased a Hibiscus coccinea to replace it; yippee! Wants?: I'm getting into red. I never liked red flowers, but since I'm getting more hummers each year (well, this will be my third year), I want to keep them happy. I've already moved alot of my plants around, last year, and moved other hummer favorites in. I'm already trying to figure out what else I need to move and what else I can fit in! I think my veggie garden may soon be a thing of the past; it's right next to my hummer area, so it's taking up some valuable real estate! I want my Monarda "Jacob Cline" to become invasive! I also wish I had some better areas for vines. I purchased a Coral Honeysuckle, but I don't know where I can possibly put it, that it'll thrive and climb....See MoreHave: fig tree need to get rid of
Comments (0)I have a sizable fig tree I need to move and don't really know where to put it...cuz it is near the house and the house needs new siding and painting. So would like to trade some stuff for that also. I suppose it is possible someone out there may be silly enough to trade for my few not special plants I have hanging around the yard. This stuff I can get rid of include: Yellow archangel ground cover, vinca (purple)ground cover, some iron clad hostas (by iorn clad I just mean deer and bugs don't really bother with them), lily of the valley ground cover, I suppose I could dig up some forsythia, I also have a hydrangea I have been tying to get give away for years. I could throw in some daffodils and crocuses. I also an upright (I suppose the word is vastigate) apple (not sure of var) which seems to take well to cuttings attempts. Here below are some plants just to give an idea of some plants I am interested in: Really I don't care what format (bear root, plant, seed, cutting...) Clematis, Diamond Ball Hazelnut, any kind Pawpaw any hardy kind Passionflower, Maypops Hibiscus, Honeymoon Red Sedum, Firecracker Ice Plant Autumn Olive, Garnet Jujube, Shanxi Li Bare Root or Plant would be nice Currant, Consort Black Bare Root or Plants Honeyberry Collection Goji Berry, Sweet Lifeberry Plum, Italian Prune Medlar, Breda Giant Kiwi, Hardy Red or Kiwi, Hardy (whatever, normal type/var) Gooseberry, Hinnomaki Red Elderberry, any var Lingonberry, Koralle Cornelian Cherry, Red Star Creeping phlox, Emerald Blue Gotu kola Poppy, Allegro Plant or seeds Lobelia, Vulcan Red Sunflower, Double Dandy Hybrid Calamus Cypress Vine, Red Nicotiana, Heaven Scent Brahmi (Bacopa monieri) Poppy, Patty's Plum Salvia, Victoria or Divinorum Gaillardia, Goblin Asclepias, Red Butterfly Sunflower, Fantasia Mix Hybrid Tithonia, Sundance Also interested in Acacea (pref copper/chocalate collor) Asclepias tuberosa, Butterfly Weed...See MoreHow do I get my boyfriend to get rid of clothes he doesn’t wear?
Comments (28)How about this? Get some totes (or boxes). Put the clothes in these totes. Seal them. Date them, say, 60 days, 90 days, 120 days hence, etc. Agree that if he hasn't unsealed a tote by the date, you can donate the contents. I was going to suggest the same thing. I've done it for myself -- and I wasn't sorry. Maybe you can't get rid of these excess clothes, but you can pack them away neatly. Personally, about a year ago I went through my closet and got rid of about 60% of my clothes -- and I am thrilled with the result. I can't even remember specific garments I "lost", but I love that everything in my closet fits, everything is a complete outfit, and everything fits into the closet without stuffing. When I retire (in another year), I can't wait to ditch the khaki pants and unflattering polo shirts that I am occasionally required to wear to school -- I've come to resent "junk" in my closet. An unexpected benefit: I have become very discriminating about what I buy (not that this has been a big shopping year anyway). I find myself asking, "Does this deserve a space in my life?" and "Would I really wear this often enough to justify spending on it?" Honestly, the only thing I've really bought in the last year is a pair of red dress shoes -- and I really need another pair of jeans. This is maybe easier for me, given that I'm so close to retirement, because I've also vowed not to buy anything I can't imagine wearing in my retirement years. My DH is a slob. He was a slob when I married him (46 years ago) and he is still a slob. He will never change. His mother was a slob too. I have had to adjust to his ways as I’m a neatnick and OCD too. Pick your battles. Do you want to die on this hill? I could say the same; well, except that I never knew his mother -- she died when he was a teenager. When I want to kill him because of his slovenly ways, I force myself to think about all the things he does well: he's a good provider, a wonderful father, he always lets me drive the new car, he takes my car out every Sunday and fills it with gas, he supports me in my career, he and I share so many hobbies -- so many things. I can get angry about his slovenly ways, start a fight, and end up doing the cleaning myself anyway -- or I can do it myself and remember that he contributes in other ways. Tupelo: If your boyfriend is unwilling to change, then you must ask yourself if this is the future you want for yourself and your future children: a significant other who doesn't care about how you want to live, or perhaps is chronically overwhelmed by life or is simply lazy? Not taking care of one's intimate belongings for an extended period of time is a sign of issues that will impact your future and not in a good way, these are bad habits that interfere with the development of the individual and also a couple. Good point. The OP isn't formally connected to this guy yet -- and she can still choose just how big an impediment this is....See Moreclusty1
