Question about Microsoft Works

When I try to correct the spelling of a word by inserting a letter, Works deletes the following letter as in changing Cn't to Can't. When I add the "a" it deletes the "n" What did I do to cause this and how do I stop it?

You haven't noted what version of Windows you're working with but I'll offer that you need to activate the Insert key. If this is a new problem...just press the Insert key down to activate it and see if that does the trick. If that doesn't correct the problem...hold the Insert Key down as you type the letter you want to insert. Other than that suggestion...I'd need more information about what version of Windows you're using to help with directions.

Thanks! that is what I needed. I probably hit the wrong key when I wanted to delete something.

Bestlawn! I could have asked you over on KT! I had two lines; one I managed to delete, but I've fumbled around so much I cannot remember what I did! Yes, I think the enter/return is what seems to trigger it. When I try to select the line, a thin vertical highlight strip appears on the left above, through, and below the line, but it will not delete. I've spent the last 20-30 minutes trying to figure it out, searching "help." But it's no big problem, I can scroll it down to the blank page and not print that page. And now that I know how to draw lines w/o triggering the other line, I'll be ok. I suppose 2007 is ok when one gets used to it, but it sure takes up a lot of time getting to that point. It has a default of 1.5 spacing, which is not that good for me. Thanks...you're the "best!"

I agree with acraftylady. I used lots of the free software and wasn't satisfied that they were good enough in today's world. I also ran a good software that wasn't free and had lots of trouble with their updates. They were rated as one of the best. I decided to try the much-maligned Norton products and haven't been happier. No troubles and very nice customer support. Piasano, as suggested here by another, use Norton's "chat" tool to work with this company. If necessary Norton will be able to lock into your pc to check it and see for themselves where the problem is coming from. It's a safe tool and they will unlock and break all contact with you when they resolve your PC's problem. I have used MSE since it came out almost a year ago along with the MS firewall. There is no other protection on this Windows 7 computer and I have no reason to doubt it works. It updates automatically and is set to run a scan at 2 a.m. each Sunday - you can change that if you wish. The fear with anything fully automatic is that the user may fail to check that it is working occasionally. The down side with Windows 7 (and I think Vista) is that when the computer enters sleep mode the scan does not take place till the next time you open the computer back up. Not a real problem but at first you wonder why the hard drive is going nuts on Monday mornings :~)

I've had that problem when typing at some websites. I don't use Works (I have Office 2007) but this doesn't happen in Word, only while on the Internet. It happens using Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox. It will delete the next letter, then the next letter, then the next letter, then the next letter and will just keep going! I don't usually let this happen (once I notice it, I copy what I've typed and then finish typing it by pasting it into Word, then copy and paste it back to the webpage). Restarting the Browser usually corrects the problem but there is no way I'm loosing everything I had typed! BTW, I have tried the INS Key but it doesn't work in IE (never tried it in Chrome and Firefox). I'm not looking for a solution, I just deal with it as is!

Jane, Not sure if they still make it but it will still work on your computer if you own a Copy! I have a MS Works in a Drawer that was never installed on a computer (not sure of the version).

I've never used MS Works, it's always bee MS Office for me! I used MS Office 95, 97, 2000, 2007 and 2010. I had MS Office 2000 Professional for years. I now have either MS Office 2007 Professional or Business on my computer (can't remember which, wife has the other). I have a copy of MS Office 2010 Professional, just have never installed it! Oh yah, almost forgot, I have MS Office 2013 on my New Acer Iconia Tablet and MS Office 365 on my Acer Aspire Laptop.

Interesting, I recently came across an old disk of MS Works which was never installed. I've also had MS Office both regular and pro.

I'm waiting for Win 10 to come out and wonder if any of these will work on the new computer. I do not want to deal MS Office 365.

I would thing MS Office 2007, 2010, and 2013 would most likely work (IMO, I don't think anything older will work). MS Office 365 is the way to go if you upgrade your software often. It's much better than paying $400 - $600 every time there is a new version that's released! This way it's under $100 (each time) but you're always up to date!

I've registered for Windows 10 on my New Acer Aspire Laptop and my New Acer Iconia Tablet (both have Windows 8.1 installed). I have yet to register for Windows 10 for either of my Windows 7 computers.

My Windows 7 Laptop is an Acer Aspire (Intel Pentium Dual-Core 2.0GHz, 8gb G. Skill RAM and 500gb Seagate SSHD Hybrid Hard Drive, w/Windows 7 Home Premium).

My Desktop is an (AMD Quad-Core 3.0GHz, Asus Motherboard, 8gb G. Skill RAM, 3 Seagate 7200rpm Hard Drives = 2.5GHz, XFX 285 2gb Video Card, w/Windows 7 Professional).

Then there is my Wife's Lenovo Laptop (Intel Pentium 2.0GHz, 4gb RAM, 320gb Hard Drive). I'm thinking about buying her a New Laptop just like my new laptop.
