thanks for all the input on the shark vacuum. I purchased a shark navigator and am learning to use it. Love it already.

Which model? I know what you mean I love mine too.

I just told my sister to get one but her son spent $600 for the new Dyson pet stick one and is telling her she should get it. I said I could think of a lot of nice things I could buy with the difference in cost but it's your money.

A friend got the same Dyson advice from her brother. I thought she'd go for it, but she got a Shark Navigator instead. She's in love.

Got mine at Linens & Things too (w/ the 20% off coupon) but I had to call around. It's on their website and a few of the stores actually carry them. I didn't want to pay the shipping. So when I finally found a store with them that wasn't too far, I asked them to hold it and then drove over the next day. BB&Beyond has them online and maybe some stores, but I couldn't find any in my area. Good luck!

Shark Steam Mop...what am I doing wrong?

I've had my mop since Fall '07 and liked it a lot. Last week it stopped producing steam, even though the power was still on. I called and a man told me to refill it 2-3 times slowly and pump the mop, what kind of water was I using, was the pad wet or dry? The trick didn't work. When I called back today another man said I'd have to ship it in for repair, $17+ and $10 for shipping. Or I could have a new mop for $39.95 plus shipping. I told him I haven't even had this 2 years, why would I trust them to fix it or buy a new one? He had no other solutions for me. I paid $100 for a freakin mop, I'm not about to pay more for shipping/repair/replacement!

So this thread came back to life. Sigh. Right now I have five rooms that are clean because I had weekend visitors last weekend. Unfortunately my bedroom is not included. I started cleaning out my winter clothes and making the big seasonal switchover. I pulled out all the winter clothes and weeded the things I'll never wear again, sent a big pile to the dry cleaner, but the rest are lying on the floor of my room. I started it in the morning, went off to do other things, went upstairs to go to bed only to find it buried under clothes. I neatly lifted them off and laid them on the floor where they still are a week later. I literally have a narrow path between my bed and the door. In the little time I have outside of work, I spend most of my time in the garden since there is a lot to accomplish out there before the very hot weather sets in. Maybe I'll leave the winter things on the floor until it's winter again. I'm sure that will be in the blink of an eye. Also, my spring/summer clothes shrank in the closet over the winter. How does that happen??

I got the Dyson. I talked to someone who said when she uses the Shark extension hose the vacuum is unbalanced and falls over.

Shark makes several models. Nicole, my guess is that the person with the tipping vacuum has the one I use for upstairs. It's a greyish lavender, and quite a bit lighter than my downstairs Shark, which is white and never falls over.

Alisande, you were complaining about the cord length being too low and too short....did it grow? :0) lol....kidding....Sorry you didn't like your Dyson......mine has a 35' long cord and says it has twice the suction of the old models.....but no....the cord is not retractable.....something that would only break in the future...

I don't think there is a perfect anything in the world of consumerism...

I liked my Dyson fine for a number of years, but at some point it became too heavy for me. Vacuuming with the Shark is so much more pleasant and engaging. The current Dyson models probably have features that compete with the Sharks, but mine (purchased in 2003) was more like a big, heavy lump.

No, the Shark cord didn't grow, but I bought an extension cord. Thirty feet wasn't long enough for me to vacuum the entire downstairs without unplugging/replugging. I don't think 35' would do it either.
