I believe its a Heliconia, care, I don't know :(

Looks like bird of paradise to me. Where are you located? Are you growing it inside or outdoors? Its tropical, but very easy to grow. I have a dwarf bird of paradise I grow outside in Phoenix, it gets bright shade to part sun, loves the heat, and is pretty frost tolerant. Mine is in a fairly protected area, but has survived cold temps that froze my natal plums down to the ground.They like plenty of water, but can tolerate fairly low water once established, and like regular fertilizing.

Yes, we need to know what types of plants you have in order to help.:) I have overwintered a whiskey barrel in the past. I cut the hardy plants back and dropped them in the bottom. Get yourself a completely submersible titanium aquarium heater (don't use the glass ones!) rated for the number of gallons of the barrel. Stick it in the barrel and plug it in. It will keep the barrel from freezing. It won't heat it up warm but it will keep it warm enough to prevent freezing.

if you want to learn... take a look at the link ... it might be to your advantage.. to use some in your yard ... its apparent your seller knows where to get it ... the setup does not need to be all that complicated .... but it does have to be weather proof .... for example.. for my hosta... 50% shade cloth is wonderful ... it not only creates shade.. but also keeps sun off pots... and so.. aids in water management ... i have no clue what would be appropriate for your area... nor your crop ... below is a pic of some that i rigged up ... to keep my red headed boy.. from frying in the sun... while playing in the sand/mud ... my biggest weather concern was snow load in winter ... which ended up not being an issue ... the easy way to avoid burn... is to insure.. that the plants are out of direct sun.. in the heat of the day ... the theory.. that at some point.. the roots cant process enough water for the plant to cope with the heat.. and the tissue is damaged ... so allowing them full sun.. but for say noon to 4 pm ... you are well on your way to avoiding such ... though it might still be hot thru 6 pm ... you have avoided the worst time of the day ... the point being... it can be a water management issue.. as well as the sun itself .... i wish you luck ken take a guess... did he play in the shade... ohhhh noooo ... worked around it .. lol... Yes Coleus is the commonly used name. The botanical name has changed - Solenstemon scutellarioides or Plectranthus scutellarioides (coleus is much easier to say!!!) Here is a link that might be useful: more info

Heliconia - You are right, it is heliconia (after google and found the picture look exactly like mine. thanks much!

LeslieM- I live in Malaysia. Humidity always very high here. I grow it outdoor and fully direct to sunlight. I think the color fading should be caused by less fertilizing. You'd made a good point there. Thanks a lot! cheers.

Your welcome, I know little about Heliconia other than the fact I want one. Malaysia, wow, that is tropical! I live in the momentarily not freezing north. Its hot now( a northern definition of hot is 80°F), but when January comes its so cold. Heliconia is a tropical plant that should thrive in Malaysia

It is a Psittacorum Heliconia. Keep it in a pot rather than in the ground. They spread like crazy and are difficult to get out once established. They do like it a bit moist but are more drought tolerant than most other Heliconias.
