You figure it out after the fact...
Comments (1)I ordered a dormant Ogon dawn redwood from a nursery in the Chicago area in the fall of '11. Didn't confirm it as a species tree until this spring. The nursery immediately issued a full refund including the shipping to me (over $100 total). I was thoroughly impressed!...See MoreChristmas Cactus repotting/cutting back help... after the fact
Comments (4)Chances are it is more likely to be a compacting peat based soil and is more than half. Then to imagine how much more profit the" pros " at the garden center would make with holiday cacti cuttings that they'll also try to root and still have the audacity to charge you to re-pot it....See MoreCan polished granite be honed 'after the fact'
Comments (11)For your same reasons I looked into getting my island of polished Rosso Verona marble honed after installation. The plastic orange juice pitcher left an etch circle the 2nd day it was in. The fabricator who installed it gave me a quote of $800-$900 for a 4 ft. x 11 ft. island. Since the money fountain had run dry I decided to live with it. I suggest you get a quote from the company that installed it. They come to your house, seal the doorways the best they can, and use the right sandpaper to remove the polish. There will be a lot of dust they told me. They took my sample of my polished marble I used when doing kitchen research and honed that for me so I could see what it would look like so you could do that too. Definitely more dull without as deep a color for my red marble....See Moreweeding daffodil bed after the fact
Comments (16)How large is the slope? I'd be inclined to tackle this with multiple strategies. I would mow/weed whack once or twice a year, late spring and fall. This will remove any new woody sprouts and prevent the invasives going to seed. If you can find time once or twice a week, go out for an hour or two and cut back to the ground the woody plants, then paint the top surface around the outside (just inside where the bark is) with an herbicide such as undiluted glysophate to discourage regrowth. You don't have to do the whole thing at once, just pick away at it. It may take a couple of years, but this will eventually get things under control where just the mowing/weed whacking should control almost everything. If you want a wilder set of flowering plants let the current wild plants grow and add vigorous growers/self seeders that are suited to your area and soil. Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm', beebalm, obedient plant, gooseneck loosestrife, Lobelia siphilatica, Joe Pye weed, Queen Anne's lace, catmint/Nepeta, goldenrod, asters, Oenothera fruticosa (sundrops evening primrose) and valerian are some plants that will seed around with abandon or spread via rhizomes and all have at least some reputation as garden thugs, exactly what you would want here. There are several perennial Geraniums that could work well, including G. sanguineum, G. maculatum, G. maccrorrhizum or one of the G. cantabrigiense such as Biokovo. If you want it to look more garden-like, mulch heavily (several inches) and then pull aside the mulch to plant. Then let things seed, but get to know weed seedlings vs. desired seedlings and do selective weeding a few times a year....See MoreCA Kate z9
