nycbluedevil final kitchen reveal
Comments (44)Wow--so jarring to see my name pop up on page 1 out of the blue! I just really love Sub Zero. I think that the fridges perform fabulously. The difference in food freshness is really noticeable. And their customer service is superb. I just have peace of mind with SZ. We had the old 42" sxs for 12 or 13 years and never had one single problem with it. And so far, so good with the new one. Yes, SZ is really expensive but I think the difference is worth it. About the freshness--my eldest daughter moved out last month to get her own apartment. We are all big salad eaters--we go through the one pound boxes of pre-washed greens in three days at the most. They always stay fresh in our fridge. She has trouble keeping smaller bags of salad fresh in her Kitchen Aid fridge (admittedly probably a lower end model, but still...) As I think I mentioned somewhere in the thread, I went with the 36" French door model this time around because I wanted my produce at waist level and wanted to be able to store wide things like party platters. The side by side was limited in width and I had to bend down to get a piece of fruit. So I am really happy about those two differences. I also like the freezer on bottom because I open the fridge about 10 times for every time I open the freezer. I don't use much ice, other than for smoothies, and am a sworn enemy of ice or water in the door. The freezer is admittedly a bit small and I was a little concerned about that when I made my buying decision. But I didn't really have a choice because I didn't want the side by side again. The freezer is about 2/3 the size of the freezer on the 42" s x s. When my kids lived at home all the time, I think a freezer that size would have been a bit inconvenient without a second freezer somewhere else (and since we live in an apartment, that somewhere else means an actual room). But the kids are mostly gone now. Also, I have a lot more time on my hands and like to cook almost every day (loving that Blue Star!), so I have less reason to cook and freeze. I just have to be strategic when we make a Costco run! I hope that answers your question, bend-or. A bit off-topic, do you live in Bend, Oregon? We did a bike trip from Ashland to Bend a few years ago. We thought that it was a really beautiful part of the country....See MoreFinal Reveal - Majra's Two-Toned Kitchen
Comments (101)I can't believe I never commented on this. I've had your kitchen bookmarked since June and I've kept coming back to look at it. I've never seen a two-toned kitchen come together this nicely! All the materials harmonize perfectly. I've showed this to my DH and he said, "That's it!". That sealed the deal. We're using your kitchen as our inspiration. :) I noticed on another thread you mentioned you are in Florida and your home is on a slab. We are also in Florida (Miami) and on a slab. We love the look of hardwood flooring, but everything we've read seems to discourage using them in this climate while on a slab. Can you tell me about your floors? How were they laid? Glued down? What species are they? Have you had any problems?...See Morescrappy25 renovation Part 4, final reveal, white inset/soapstone
Comments (99)OP here. My Julia soapstone from Stonemasters in Kennet Square, PA, which I picked for the hardness, has only one tiny chip on the flat counter that you can't see unless you look for it. I had the fabricators round over all the edges and there are no edge or corner dings. It has only had three applications of the oil wax mixture on it in over three years and is truly a no-maintenance counter. We put hot pots on it, have had lost of spilled juices and sauces, tomato and red wine, and continual coffeemaker drips, but all clean up without problems. Sorry to hear that dataw1127 did not have the same experience. Stonemasters had given me 2x2 inch samples of all their soapstones and I took them home and experimented before choosing the one with lowest maintenance. Maybe that is a key to selecting soapstone? PS I also had my overhanging counter corners rounded and did not realize what a difference that made until this past week when I stayed at my sister in law's home and banged my hips several times on her very sharp 90 degree granite counter corners. Apparently her 4 year old grandchild had a bad run in with them earlier also but with his head. Thankfully he is OK....See MoreFINALLY - My kitchen reveal (work completed in Aug 2016)!
Comments (31)Somehow I missed your kitchen too, Anglo! I love seeing Shiloh kitchens (as I am a dealer)! I am bookmarking this to show my clients! I love, love, love the combination of inset uppers and frameless lowers! It's always been my favorite! To date, I have yet to get anyone to do this. I love the gray...and the crown molding stack you have there is a stunning design...perfect for a vintage look. So many times a taller crown stack can look forced or obtrusive. This combination has a great ratio and looks amazing! I will also keep in mind to suggest White Corian more often...you are right...it is a classic and so repairable!...See MoreK C !
