Hugs, satine, I know how you feel. This is our fifth Father's Day without my dear husband, and wonderful father to our children.

Satine and Mama Goose, I'm very sorry for your losses. I truly feel blessed to have my husband of 34 years with me today, and every day. I lost my Dad 29 years ago, he was only 60 years old. I found out the day after he died that I was pregnant with our daughter. I miss him every single day. He was one of a kind and I loved him dearly.

I'll be thinking of you, and everyone else who feels sadness and loss on what are very happy days for many.

Thanks for reminding me of my Dad. He has been gone for many years, and I often wish I had been able to know him when I was older. He was too quiet for the exuberance of my young and hectic life (and dominating DM), but I'm sure he would have had many words of wisdom to share as I became older. I "found" several photo's of him in my latest deep cleaning this week....photos of him with my babies (who are now in their 50's). He was such a sweet, gentle man.

Bittersweet is a good description. This is the first Father's Day without my DH. But I just talked to my dad - he's 94 and still sharp as a tack. For me, every day I still have my dad is Father's Day :-)

Be grateful for all the years you had good husbands and fathers. Not everyone had the advantage.

Hugs to all who are feeling lonely missing your DHs....I also am missing mine...holidays and anniversary dates are always so hard, even if it has been years since they have been gone. No one really knows until they walk in our shoes. Blessings to all.

I had a great father, though my mother was absolutely wonderful. Dad was flawed, but when we siblings get together, it is of our dad that we tell the stories, starting with, "Remember when...?"
He was born in the 1890s and did not marry till late, as the country was coming out of the Depression. Then within the first 7 years, he became the father of 4 noisy children. I suspect it was somewhat overwhelming for him. We were always being admonished with such phrases as "Nicely, quietly, and politely!" His favorite reply was no. If I whined that the neighbor girl was being allowed to do what he had denied me, he'd remark, "If Suzie jumped off a cliff, would you want to?"

He had tall children and was forever telling us to stand up, stand tall, quit slouching over, and to speak up, quit mumbling, quit fiddling with that (whatever) and sit still.

He had been the bachelor around town till marrying mom in his early 40s. The good lord punished him for all his ways with the ladies by giving him 3 daughters (and one son). How he worried about us girls, especially after Mom died. But we all turned out fine, though he did not live to see what we would do with our lives.
