Help! Need to identify pest/disease?
Comments (5)Yikes! Mealy bugs indeed! That's quite the infestation you've got going there; it will be difficult to get rid of. First thing to do is isolate this plant from the rest right away. It's quite likely that it has spread to other plants, but you can keep them from getting as badly infested as this one. There's a wealth of information on here about dealing with these guys. For a plant as badly infested as the one in the photo, I would remove it from soil and go at it with a treatment solution and a paintbrush in the sink, to get in every crevice. You will need multiple treatments to get rid of all of them. Good luck!...See MoreHelp Identifying Pest or Disease on Ficus
Comments (1)Ficus galling wasp in Josephiella family. Been in Los Angeles areas for many years and the only remedy is to keep trimmed to lower foliage mass and remove cut foliage and dropped leafs from ground to lower re-infestation rates. However once you have them, you have them. I've had them on my hedge for years, its only unsightly, not life threatening. on the hedges we usually do a vigorous shear right around the time we see the galls appear and this will tend to remove a really good portion of the larvae and subsequent generations from the specific group of plants. https://palmbeachcountyextension.wordpress.com/2012/01/18/josephiella-wasp-galls-on-ficus/...See MoreHelp identify the disease/pest affecting my apple tree
Comments (4)I see nothing wrong with your tree that would require any treatment. There are some blemishes on the leaves but that looks more physiological than any sort of disease or insect problem. There might have been some early aphid activity but don't see any sign of them now - aphids often attract ants. Regardless of the cause, the tree will be fine. FYI, the Bonide sulphur spray is intended to be used as a fungicide. It will have no affect on any insect problems, should they arise. Any apples the tree produces should be fine. You do have a pollination partner for it?...See MoreNeed Help Identifying Disease or Pest
