Great score; I'll have to pull mine out and review it, it's been awhile.

Like new Nesco Roaster5 qt Nesco Roaster! I think it was $10.

At a large annual bookstore I bought a number of books for $2 each and they had boxes of freebies outside. I picked up 2 hardcover Julia Child in the freebie boxes. Great additions to any cookbook collection.

I too got the Silver Palates cookbook in a box of books off of Freecycle.

Mine was an online auction, I've gotten a rice cooker, a commercial meat slicer and my latest was a brand new Squeezo. More than $10, but a new one costs $200+, and so I was happy with my $40 bargain. I got Ashley an old KitchenAid, when they were still made by Hobart. Less than $50, plus a pair of brushes and it works like a champ.

I've been resisting the urge to buy any more cookbooks, but I know I'll cave in...

What is a Squeezo? Inquiring minds want to know . . .

It's what you give you DH!

great finds everyone, congrats...
LOL, Islay Corbel!! :)

thanks for the reco bbstx, i'll def. try that one...
when i looked on amazon, it was $14.00 + $4.00 to ship, so i was happy as a clam...!!

Sprtphntc, several of us make the Chicken Marbella, it's fantastic whether for the family or for company. It's hands-down my favourite chicken dish. I've been making it for years before I stumbled on the cookbook. It's a must-try.

Oh, this is my favourite find.......a freebie from Freecycle. It was an entertainment unit with pull-out drawers to house the record player etc, The bottom cupboards have wooden vertical slats to separate record albums.

It's completely re-purposed as my kitchen cabinet to store casserole dishes, casti-iron pots and recipe binders and baking pans in the vertical slats. Love it, love it.

This is when I first got it, it's packed to the gills now and the top houses a larger, stainless steel microwave (also Freecyle)

Great score Jasdip! I was big on Freecycle (mostly to get rid of stuff) but sadly it has closed up in our area.

nice piece jasdip... we don't have freecycle either :(
i will def, try the chicken marbella this week, always looking for a great new recipe... made two last week from cooking light grilling magazine that we all enjoyed: teriyaki shrimp and scallop kababs, i used filet steak instead of scallops. we love scallops but i had the filets in the freezer so i used them. and i made Spicy grilled chicken over Sweet peppers, came out fantastic.
this week i am going to make "grilled salmon with east-west spice rub and orange soy glaze", so we shall see how that comes out. i also got this cookbook from thrift store in the winter for $.50..... all their paperbacks are $.50 and hardcover $1.00

When you make the Chicken Marbella, don't skip the prunes. Weird, I know, but the dish will be lacking without them. I generally cut my prunes into small pieces so they either totally disintegrate or, if they don't, they are unrecognizable as prunes.

The prunes are the best part; they just melt in your mouth. Some people tried subbing apricots but they didn't work. Gotta do the prunes. Buy what you need in bulk if you don't eat them regularly. I keep a little sour cream container in the frig, they seem to last forever, until the next time we make Marbella.

I love how you repurposed that furniture, Jasdip! The vertical slats are perfect for trays. We did something similar for a dual microwave unit. It was originally a bedroom wall; we joined shelves and pull-outs from the two sides to make our custom piece. Not stylish, but it works perfectly for our needs pre- kitchen remodel.

Going to have to try that chicken recipe, too. I'll trust the collective experience and try it with the prunes...something I never buy...but cut them into very small pieces, bbstx style.

My last culinary find at a thrift store was a beat up old carbon steel knife. Got it for about 50 cents. Cleaned it up, sharpened it, and it's one of my favorites. (It's a Sabatier.)
