What took a bite?

After having problems with just about everything I've planted, this happened overnight. :(

I know we have one squirrel (we are in suburbia so I'm not dealing with as many animal issues as you get in the country). Could he be the perpetrator or could it be something smaller? It never even dawned on me that the squirrel might eat the tomatoes. Would he do that at night (I checked them last at 6pm yesterday).

I removed the tomato with the big hole but am not sure if I should trash it or leave as bait (or if that's asking for trouble)?

Also the tomato next to it got that visible gouge and I saw a tiny bug crawling in and out of it. Should I get rid of that too?

How do I prevent this from happening to the rest?

Edited to add: I also just looked at pics from a week ago my SunGold plant compared to now and there are 5 tomatoes missing that were mostly green, and 1 nearly ripe one!!! I never even thought they'd disappear/be fully snatched so I didn't notice. :-/
