WOW!! What luck! That flower is gorgeous! it really does look a lot like Jeannie Jr. - which btw, the one you gifted me is blooming on all 4 tips. This is the first time I've gotten to see it bloom and the flowers are FABULOUS!

That is Kauka Wilder. It resembles Jeannie Moragne but it has a smaller flower with rounded petals (Jeannie's petals are pointed).

You cannot tell from a picture. Besides my KW had pointy flowers and looked just like all my JMs but the scent was very different. JM was like a red rose or a peach when cooler, and KW was like Hawaiian Tropic Suntan Lotion. The flowers are smaller for sure. JM (top)and KW(bottom).

Sure you can tell from the pictures. KW has narrow petals too whereas JM has wide overlapping petals. People confuse them because they have similar coloration sometimes. The leaves are very different too. JM has characteristic leaves very different from other plumerias.

Here is KW. Look at the leaves. The are narrow and smooth. Sure there are a few petals that are pointed but most are rounded.

Here is JM. The leaves are wider and lighter green. Also, the area between the rips is elevated. For KW the area between the ribs is flat. All petals on JM are pointed.

I think the point I was making was we need to stop id of plumies from pictures. It is what has flooded the market with wrongly named plants. Seedling may look like parents but are made from a high number of genes and are like calling your kids as clones of you. We all need to change "that is a....." with "it could be a..... or a seedling of it or a closely related plant." Once cuttings of these plants come on the market as wrongly named cuttings, we all suffer. Over several decades, I have wasted much money on wrongly named plants or cuttings that did not turn out to be what I wanted. Yet every day I see people id flowers from pictures. Just happens to be something that bothers me. To me, if it was not a cutting from a registered plant, then it cannot use that name. Sorry, but that is my opinion,

Tdogdad, I agree with you that the plumeria world is flooded with fakes. The problem is not people identifying varieties via pictures. The problem is irresponsible sellers knowingly flooding the world with fakes. Like Derrick, most of what he sells are not true to the name. He buys NOIDS from homeowners, puts a named variety name on them, and sells them to unsuspecting people. So many of these people post pictures of these fakes on Facebook. There are even two sellers who sell these fakes at the PSA sales. He has literally flooded the market with thousands of these fakes. I know because I bought many of them. But I had the real thing to compare it to. I threw most of what I bought from him in the trash. It is really sad what is going on. People buy from him because he sells nice cuttings at cheap prices. I confronted him many times about this, both in private and publicly. I do not know how we can stop people like him.

Beautiful plants...love sharing and bringing home seeds. I was in Croatia 2 yrs ago...picked alot of MILs Poppy seeds home in a plastic container. In my travels I had a lay over in Holland...Purchased some seeds there...when I landed in the US I declared the Holland seeds and had them taken from me.. My mother in laws Poppy seeds are happy here in my Ontario Garden...

The ones I've ordered from Derrick I've changed the names on the tag to NO ID "whatever name he gave it". I did that because of the above reasons. I wanted a three or four middle size multiple branch Aztec Golds to place like a hedge line and was willing to wait and grow them from cuttings...because I thought it would mean more to me. After seeing them bloom I really don't think they are Aztec Gold...or at least they were not the same Aztec Gold I purchased from Emerson (which is what I really wanted).

Now I still like them as they are pretty and shaped well, but disappointed as I thought I was getting something and I didn't.

George, do you live in Texas by chance. If so I was wondering what sellers were selling improperly labeled plumerias. I could find how to message you privately.

That's what I did. I stuck with the two buyersides I've purchased from before. I now understand when a new variety comes out how hard it is to spent big money when you can't be sure that your getting what you paid for. And I definitely understand how rare...at least in my area...it is to have a true n to the name large specimen is now.

Small world...I think I purchased a four tip TLD and a Pang Peach three tip from you. Does your last name begin with an H? I saw a couple seller with his named varieties...and that's why I didnt buy from them...that and the plants looked kinda butchered up with a lot of center cuts and such.

I have bad ocd and like uniformity...if you can have that with plumerias.

Plumeriai45, yea my name is George Hadjigeorge. I am the research director of the PSA. Those 4-tip TLD and 3-tip Penang Peach will make very nice small trees. They are the best bloomers for Houston. They will bloom every year for you.

Unfortunately I am not going to be at the next PSA sale in Fort Bend. Something came up and I got to go to Europe. Try to make the October PSA meeting at the garden center at Herman Park.

As someone unaffiliated with but who defended the sanctity of the plant registration process I have discovered myself a Don Quixote charging these windmills in great irony. Now to quote Frozen it is time to "Let it Go" on the basis of what is the point of registration, now. How ironic.

Maybe it's like owning a classic car or owning a very specific and rare classic car. Maybe some people like owning any Ole plume rid because they enjoy them and some people want to own a specificlyrics name plumeria.

But I still agree... sell what it is not what you want it to be.

George, The ETLD cutting I had my in laws buy from you at the sale made to San Antonio via the Plumeria Railroad. It will make the next part of the trip to Emily in a couple of weeks. its a fantastic specimen. Thanks so much.

It is just starting to open up. I have since watered it and placed in my yard for safe keeping.

Looks good, thanks. It needs to be repotted in a 3-5 gallon pot. The roots need room to spread.
