My Stupidest Gardening Mistake - or- I Was Once A Newbie

I'm borrowing this title from another GardenWeb thread in a different forum. Their thread came out just hysterical, with lots of good tips, too. I'll bet we have some great stories amongst us, too. What was your Stupidest Gardening Mistake?

I have a few so far:

1) Spending seven years wondering why I have a black thumb but never figuring out I should amend the soil

2) Getting lots of plants from different places then finding I have no beds prepared so everything ends up staying in pots way too long!

3) Putting everything that I had in pots in the one spot in my yard that a) gets the most sun, and b) I have no good method of reaching with a hose (thank goodness I realized my mistake while at the ETN swap and now keep everything that's in pots in the shady areas!)

4) Painstakingly growing many, many seedlings in peat pots in non-draining flats, then setting them out to harden off... in the full-on hot sun, then having them drown when it rains!
