building base cabs to support countertop

Texas_Gem

I am in the process of planning the building of my base cabs for my pantry.

It will be 18" deep and span 9 feet; there will be 2 fixed shelves, one on the bottom and one in the middle and then the countertop.

I've built plenty of shelves before but I am not certain if there is something I should be doing different/extra in order to support the weight of a stone countertop.

Should I have 1/2 or 3/4 ply as a back the entire length or will the face frame rails and stiles be enough to support the weight along with the end panels?

I would rather "over engineer" than build something that could potentially fail.
