Is this Hosta Virus X? (Photo #1 if 2)
Comments (10)without a doubt.. its frost or freeze damage ... these warm zone peeps dont really know what it is all about.. lol ... white tissue is the weakest and usually affected .. if you wish.. call it cold damage.. you seem to be fixated on some certain temp .. whether a frost or a freeze .. its irrelevant.. its was cold enough to harm the leaf ... thats all you need to know .. ignore it for a month ... even a damaged leaf will photosynthesize ... in a month.. remove the worst 2 or 3 leaves... you will be surprised... how few removed will make all the difference.. you wait.. because you will do much more harm.. trying to take care of it now ... ken PS: in my collection of 1500 ... in any given event.. i can have .. just as an e.g. ... 10 affected hosta.. spread over 2 acres... why this one and not others.. who knows ... you will hurt your head trying to make rhyme nor reason from it .......See Moremy Hostas (pt 2)
Comments (16)Paula, you started another thread for the second hosta? or ...... Well, we went through the genealogy of Stained Glass with Mr.Gary's sport, so.......yeah, they're related. Does it EVER have any gold to it? Even just a couple of weeks? It is the nature of Stained Glass to keep the yellow middle, but I guess could be seen as chartreuse. Even when mine was in the shade, it's been gold/yellow in the middle. Now I have two and they both are more gold in the middle. Two examples does not a fact make, but I still vote for it to be Guacamole. Take a look at the link below, go to the sport family of Guacamole. It is shown as being yellow/green margin too. But I haven't seen it as yellow myself, so I think of it as a two tone green. Then Stained Glass is a sport of Guacamole, and it too is shown as yellow/green margin. (y/g) Which I've see two of my SG's always keep the yellow middle with the green margin. I was looking at that Guacamole family sport tree, and realized tonight I have MOST of those in my garden....the ones readily available recent years, any way. Got a big box of them delivered today. And that's where I was headed to make a new post and reveal their names. Love those fragrant hosta. Comments (9)Teresa, What a fabulous time we had in your fair state! It was wonderful of you to give up Sunday to spend with Rita and me and show us your garden and introduce us to the two nursery/hosta/display gardens. Thanks for sharing your plants with us. Your knowledge of hostas and their origins made me realize how little I really know about my favorite plant! I'm just happy to remember what little I do about them!!!!! We left with our pocket books slimmer but very happy to have all the new additions to our gardens. Thank you again from both of us, Connie and Rita...See MoreBack with more mystery plants
Comments (6)Numbers 4 and 6 are not the same. #4 has toothed leaves while #6 does not. #2 is most definitely not a geranium. It is motherwort, Leonurus cardiaca. That is a 100% certain ID. The new spring foliage has a different shape than mature foliage later in the season. FataMorgana...See Moremagpiepix 5b/6a
