One garden had created a rooftop garden of grasses and herbs on the top of their shed. It was complete with a hand carved wood goat!

Patti Halm did some great things with pots in her yard as seen in the next two photos.

The conifers are STUNNING. The overall landscaping in these yards is truly beautiful - nicely done

yes - all four gardens were nicely done with a mixture of heights and textures! I got some really good ideas and I even ran out and bought a Thuja Filiformis!

Ken or anyone who might have this conifer. It says it's slow growing. Just how slow - does anyone know?

I just got back from the garden tours and auction in Iowa. It was a lot of fun. The gardens were beautiful. The people were all very friendly and welcoming. The auction had over 120 hostas that people had donated to the society. One hosta went for $200. It was a seedling and I am sorry but I can't remember much more about it. There were two Sally and Bobs that went for over $100 each. The high bids were mostly for seedling and different hybrid crossings. I ended up winning 4 plants and my cousin shared some of his divisions with me as well.

Thanks Lainey for responding, thought it might get lost in the other pics. Similar look, a bit of blue in one I snapped. I count about 14 vein pairs in my pic vs 9-10 for Lunar Night. Owners said wish they knew what it was, and to let 'em know if I figure it out. Three hosta in particular at this garden I made note of and this was first on my list - figures. Thanks again. Paul

Paul, you are so appreciated for all this work. This made my day - and it is just as cold and rainy today in the 'burbs of Chicago as it was there. Makes me homesick. I don't think more than a handful of people were aware of hostas when I lived there (near Lake Nokomis) 25 years ago. Had perfect conditions - oak trees with deep roots and longer days in summer. These collections are amazing as are the landscapes. Thank you so much! Westy

Duhhh! Paul,and what do you think horse manure is? I don't fertilize my hostas at all,and they look pretty good. They probably have soaker hoses all under there,also. Just horse manure couldn't possibly account for all that growth,already. My hostas come up in March,and April,and they still don't grow that fast. Whatever it is,they sure have the right combination! Thanks for all the pics,anyway! Now I'm going out and burn all my hostas. Lol! phil

Teresa, What a fabulous time we had in your fair state!
It was wonderful of you to give up Sunday to spend with Rita and me and show us your garden and introduce us to the two nursery/hosta/display gardens. Thanks for sharing your plants with us.

Your knowledge of hostas and their origins made me realize how little I really know about my favorite plant! I'm just happy to remember what little I do about them!!!!!

We left with our pocket books slimmer but very happy to have all the new additions to our gardens.

I enjoyed "shopping" with you and Rita on Sunday. It was not out of generosity that I took you to my two favorite gardens....I needed a reason to get out of weeding! lol

Last of the photos.

The path up the hill in the back yard of the Kriesel's was lined with a mixture of conifers, hosta, annuals and perrenials. That little blue conifer is nice.

The Halms had a unique home with extremely textured stucco siding. It looks like a gingerbread house!

The berm in from of the Shannon's home sprinkle with conifers, rocks, hostas, annuals and perrenials.

What beautiful gardens! I especially like the pic of the large pot with mixed grasses and sedums?, etc. I have such a hard time deciding what to plant in some of my pots, I really like that idea.

What a great way to spend the weekend!

Teresa - thanks for taking the time to shoot all the pics and posting for us - much appreciated - I've saved them all to my pic files. Love the conifers and textures. Love gardens with few colors, mostly texture - these look so professionally done.

I'm SICK -- I shoulda been there. This is MY HOME -- Miss it.

Connie, if you don't call me soon I'll never dig up rocks with you again in new subdivisions with the police watching us! Must know what you bought!!!!
