There is a hosta called 'Gunther', it's a Benedict/Kuenster hybrid, dark blue green with some central streaking, but it it not available anywhere commercially as far as I know. You could contact Kuenster to see if he has any to sell, but it's not likely, and the plant would almost certainly be very expensive. Gunther's Prize is as Ken described above, and it is available commercially, usually in the $100-125 price range for a single start, and there may be a long waiting list, as it's not a fast grower and does not tissue culture well. It can also be found in the gardens of some lucky hosta collectors, but most will be loathe to part with a piece given the slowness of this variety to throw new divisions. There is a third option that you might consider, Gunther's Rim. This is a stable plant that sported from Gunther's Prize, and it is commercially available. Jim's Hosta has it for $20, so very reasonable. It should be a good grower, and will be quite a large plant eventually. You might also find it on the Hosta Library auction site, or you could contact the people who sell on that site to ask about availability.

Aw ... that's a cute tree you've got there, tcgardener. You'll love the Sweetheart variety. It's a dwarf tree that grows slowly and not too big if you're concerned with its size. This variety will bloom more readily than the other varieties. Mine does bloom heavily every year. It produces chicken tongue seeds and the fruit is heart-shaped and the largest in size among my other lychees. I do love its taste best as of now ;) Here's a picture of my Sweetheart planted 7 years ago when it was about 4 ft tall. I just pruned it a couple of ft down for easy care. The fruit will appear variegated even when ripe. For all these years, I've confused it as a Hak Ip and my almost 20 ft tall Hak Ip as my Sweetheart until I found out from a plant vendor recently. My Hak Ip also produces some chicken tongue seeds with other bigger seeded fruit as well. So, this makes me think your friend's lychee might have been a Hak Ip. Here's a picture of my Hak Ip after being trimmed off 4 ft of it's height as it was really getting too huge for harvest.

Richard, I agree with you that this is your jade; you sent it to me some time ago. There is something odd about this plant; your rooted cutting struggled and finally did not survive, so I re-rooted the top, which was definitely the same as the plants shown here. I asked other people here if they knew anything about this plant and two, I recall, said it was the same as 'Waves' and a jade called, I think, Didier? I'll have to check that if I can find the old messages. To me it did not look like Waves, which was owned by another poster who showed it on the forum more than once. But now, the plant which is growing from the recovered cutting totally resembles Waves. The leaves are long and of a purplish hue - unlike those in all the photos above, but I KNOW it's the same plant.
