Wow, this post asking about hearing a bird that sounds very distincly saying "thank you" is the first time that I have come across anyone else that has heard it. For over four years now I have recorded that bird at my home in Yarmouthport and no one that I have taken it to seems to know what bird is making that sound but everyone agrees that it sounds exactly like "thank you". As hard as I have tried I cannot see it, it cannot get a good look because it always stays on the very tops of large trees and it always comes from the same direction passing thru daily. The only other time that I have heard this bird once when I was shingling a house that was no more than 1/4 mile from my house, and it works its way towards my house, that home owner that day said that they have heard it also and they tried to see it but they could not either. This bird usually shows up about the end of April here and comes by just about every morning thru June. The one thing that I would like to mention that strikes me is that this birds voice is as distinct saying "thank you" as a quails sounding its "bobwhite" call. I have taken it to all the bird stores and once a person who belonged to the Audobon Society took my recorder for a month and came back saying that she and her friends drew a blank trying to identify it. So the mystery goes on. I really wish that I could get a photo or a glimpse of it because I carve birds and things that bring back good memories, and this on would bring good memories. LOL! Yes tree frogs are incredibly loud! I had about 5-6 singing to each other yesterday evening in the back yard and I could hardly hear my family talking to me while out on the deck! They are really hard to find too. I have one that retires to a little ledge on the top of my shed every year.....same spot. He's so cute! I love going to sleep with my windows open so I can hear them, but sometimes, I just have to close the window 'cause they are sooooooo loud! They are pretty amazing little creatures. I think they are attracted to my backyard because I have several little water gardens. They deposit their eggs in the water. They are so sensitive to the presence of water, that if I go out to just water a few plants, they start singing! I don't know if they see the water, or just hear or smell it! Ain't nature grand? :)
