I would like to share some of my roses
Comments (5)Sammy, sadly, the Rose Forum is highly ignorant of no-spray policies especially with regard to fungicide. And many have no inkling about ancient roses too. All they know about are hybrid teas, floribundas and Austins. Only the rose aficianados and rosarians know about the ancient roses. If it hadn't been for my friends Krista and Karen I would have been totally clueless myself. I so regret my choices of roses now... My local nurseries refuse to carry old ancient romantic roses, they will only carry Austins, they love their Austins, LOL! Sadly Sammy I have only the "boring roses". All of my resistant roses were resistant until September, with just a little blackspot here and there. Now when it gets cold however, the blackspot doesn't like it and will go away (which was in October). Sammy I am first posting photos of my beautiful Gemini, the rose that is now deeply struggling. But it is truly a fighter rose and has sent up multiple new baby stems and clean baby leaves. It caught severe blackspot basically overnight, with no warning after weeks of endless rains. It used to be such a healthy, vibrant and strong rose! Look how clean and beautiful the foliage used to be!! This may help explain why I hate and dread and blame the rain. Now here are the photos of the resistant roses that I have: Climbing America: Penny Lane Climbing Rose Tiffany: Special Occasion: Lincoln is very resistant, only one or 2 blackspot leaves in the worst of seasons-the fall. It has very cute lively big blooms but doesn't have enough maturity yet to have its classical blooms except for 3 blooms. Here is Aromatherapy: Fragrant Cloud is indeed resistant. LOL! I love the taste of her rose petals (I make rose petal jam) but it is no beauty. It is just a cheery lively flower, but I often hide her because her blooms are not exactly the most beautiful....See MoreI would like to share with you my new seedlings
Comments (15)Ooooh!!! I would buy Scently Divine and Judy Lynn. Judy - how cool would that be to have a rose in your yard that has your name!!! Scently Divine has such a delicate lavender with a lovely darker blush on the edges of the petals - that is soooooo lovely!!!!! Any fragrance? Judy Lynn has that stuffed look and the lovely quilled points. Osiana looks fabulous too. I love that shade of apricot. Thanks so much for the look!!! You are a wonderful hybridizer!!! Comments (46)Alana, I've tried just planting seeds straight into my potting mix (compost, sand, peat moss and plant tone), but I do think a few months' refrigeration may be needed here with our mild winters. You're a bit colder, but refrigerating may be needed in your area too. As I said, I didn't do anything special other than chilling the seeds. No paper towels, no peroxide, etc. I was intrigued by what seil said about mold possibly assisting the germination process, and wonder if too much "keeping things sterile" might be counterproductive. I had so many more seedlings than expected that I didn't take great care of them; too lazy to provide TLC for them all, but also wanting to keep just the tough survivor-types. Besides, I don't have room for 60+ additional full-grown roses. I didn't plant any seeds last year, but this winter I have a few hips I've been eyeing (from 'Basye's Blueberry', 'Mme Lambard' and 'Nur Majal'), and I may throw some seeds in the fridge for a month or two and plant in the spring. It IS fun to see so many little roselings sprouting! Congrats on your seedlings- hope to see future posts on what you end up with. Virginia...See MorePlease have a look
Comments (0)I wasn't too sure about where I should post the pictures of my seedlings. I put them on the Propagation & Exchange forum. I would appreciate your HONEST opinions on whether or not to put them on HMF and if so how http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/3147799/would-like-to-share-rose-seedlings?n=2 Sharlene...See More- 8 years ago
