I wish I could, but at the moment, I'm gardening out of a balcony, which means I have to rely on pots, pots and more pots. I planted them about 2-4 to a pot, depending on the size of the pot, giving myself a 50% chance of failure. They are looking alright so far. Still standing upright, and new leaves are forming. Hopefully they keep that up! But I'll be moving soon to a house with a raised plant box. Planning to plant a whole row of sunflowers - mixed between Mexican and this one. Not sure if I should transplant what I already have or leave them as it is. Maybe I'll just start afresh. Wish me luck! :)

Cayenne = heat No. Peppers create no physical heat. The sensation of heat is due to the chemical capsaicin, which bonds to a receptor site in mammals called Vanilloid Recepter Subtype 1, or VR1. It's the same receptor that is activated by heat. Only mammals have the receptor VR1, so this effect doesn't occur in other animals (for example, my parrot loves devouring peppers that would make even the hardiest spicy food nut cringe), and there is never any physical heat created. It's just a sensory illusion.

personally.. i try to avoid eating insect poops ... intentionally anyway but on the other hand.. contemplating how they turn pine tar/resin/sap [since i have had them on pines] into sugar is bewildering ... maybe they can swap some dna with scale and solve the human waste issues .. double yuck ... where am i going with this??? even if i had been tempted to 'taste it' ... i might not be willing to admit such ... besides the ants... when everything underneath starts turning black ... is also a way to 'find' the scale... i think the sugars mildew .... rotflmbo ... ken

Jeff, I don't usually divide chamomile since it reseeds so easily. I will cut it back really, really hard once it is about through with a flush of flowering and it will then regrow and reflower. The method used to propagate chamomile depends oh which type you are growing. If it is English Chamomile, you can propagate it via seeds, division or by layering. If it is German Chamomile, you usually propagate it by seed only. I treat dill the same way as chamomile, cutting it back hard if I want to keep it growing and in flower, or let it go to seed if I want the seeds for cooking. I have never heard of anyone propagating it via division or cuttings, only by seed. Sage is easy to grow from cuttings. I have never tried to divide it from the rootball and don't know if that is how it is usually done. But, if you see clumps forming away from the main clump you can dig the little clumps up, separate them from the mother clump and replant them. Cut back the topgrowth of the divisions a little to compensate for the shock of being dug and transplanted. You can divide many perennial plants by cutting the rootball in half, but you will always have to cut back the top a lot to compensate for the digging/cutting/replanting. I usually just let the herbs grow into huge monsters. I tend to let them reseed, and then I just dig up the tiny seedlings and put them where I want them. In a rainy year, I will cut back herbs many, many times. Dawn
