Pretty, fragrant Double Delight

While looking at my roses this morning, I do have quite a few blooming, but there's not that much to get excited about, but I am pleased with this Double Delight bloom. I always enjoy this rose, not only for the blooms, but the lovely fragrance! Our temps are supposed to be moderating with more rain in the forecast, which we need. There are a few exceptions, but the roses don't like this heat, which I know is an under statement. If anyone else would like to add a picture or pictures and comments about any of your roses to this thread, you are welcome to do so.

That's a good example of DD's lovely blooms. I love her fragrance too! She is a reliable performer year after year but tends to get some chlorosis in my alkaline soil, which I correct with iron chelate and citric acid.

Wonderful pic of DD, Sara--in fact, one of the best I've seen in a number of posts on this forum. Good job. At her best, DD is a real showstopper, isn't she!

I'm Delighted With My Double Delight... She's showing me her true colors this year, pun intended...lol Yes, she still gets blackspot but as long as I keep spraying, she doesn't give me too much grief. I just love her look and the scent of the blooms are to die for. The plant doesn't grow leggy like some other ones and the height is right where I want it so I don't need a ladder to get a whiff of her sweetm spicy smelling blooms. I can see why this rose is a winner of many awards:)

Rio Samba. Why limit to HT's? Many floribundas and grandifloras can have exhibition style blooms and long stems, too. In my area, Scentimental is outstanding, along with Judy Garland, Dream Come True, and many others.

My Double Delights are in their first year and are both in the ground. One struggled at the start and is just now taking off. For the other, I have noticed that it is among the most "chintzy" of my bloomers so far. It does two or three blooms and then rests a little longer than some of my other HT's. The blooms are beautiful, though. I have convinced myself that, at least in my garden, which is in a very different climate than yours, Double Delight is just a slow starter. Mine do seem to be taking off now that it is very hot and sunny here in central California. We had an unusually cool and rainy spring here. As I mentioned in an earlier post this morning, I wonder if DD is a rose that loves hot weather.

Hmmm... Garden Party? Will have to check that. What would be strange is I have two of these bought from different places (Walmart body bag and the other J&P from a local nursery) and BOTH are identical in form, color, etc... Kind of led me to believe that it had to be a nature thing because they are in the same garden. Guess we will just have to wait and see how they do with age. Thanks! Michelle

Sara-Ann, that's a beautiful photo of DD, real perfection, and even more impressive considering your awful heat. We're having a similar heat situation and, boy, can you separate the toughies from the wimps in this kind of weather. Julia Child is by far the best in heat around here, but Love Song and Easy Does It are almost as good. I always enjoy looking at a photo taken of Julia during our record heat breaking summer of 2013. I think one day it got up to 113 here, and on another July day this photo was taken. Diane

I love it!!! I saw one at a Plant store in our area (Milwaukee, WI). It had blooms on it & they were the size of my fist! I wonder how they do in Wisconsin weather with disease and life after our lovely winters.
