cactus and succulent shows?
Comments (14)Does it have to be a show? I was excited to learn that many colleges/universities have greenhouses to view..... I want to see the UMass Amherst collection, I'd be happy to just take pics, or learn of some new types. Plus the nice thing is usually they aren't crowded & may talk to a gardener that cares for the collection. ohh....thanks for tip cactusmcharris... will have to look into Danbury CT! Comments (81)Great pics! Thanks for taking the time to post so many. A few thoughts: - There were great examples of how you can take a simple plant that looks humble by itself, and make it look impressive just by massing a ton of it together. That Crassula nudicaulis is one...I have it and it's not nearly as impressive as a single plant. - The E. agavoides 'Ebony' should be way more black. Needs more sun, please! - I have Crassula 'Moon Glow' and it does tend to creep along the ground but I've never thought of growing it like that. Very, very cool....See MoreMy New Acquisitions from the San Diego C&SS Show June 2015
Comments (39)Coolice- After this purchase I will have no space left at all for newer plants. I have enough room to do my usual propagation but, when those have grown up a little I usually find good homes for them. I don't mind giving what I've grown to anyone..as long as I feel they could take care of the plant properly. After all, these are living creatures...to be respected and protected as any other living creature. I know it's corny but it's how I feel....See MoreToronto Succulent & Cactus Show 2015 - new plants from the sale
Comments (2)David- beautiful cheiridopsis. I have a few mesembs/mimicry plants. I can tell you I treat them as if they were my larger cactus so, that means I rarely water them. But, when I do I make sure the soil is saturated. During the heat of summer once a month. Never during the winter. but, most of my plants grow outside including the mesembs and they seem to be doing well. I was worried because a few months ago my area had gotten a deluge of rain for 3 days! All my mesembs made it though. They like cramped and rocky places too. I would guess it helps them anchor themselves. I also think (just a guess) that they do better with other mesembs around them. Maybe someone will offer better suggestions for both of us....See MoreNeil
