3 kids, 5 grandkids. Unfortunately, one son and one granddaughter have died. Trying to be thankful for what we have.

I have 6 grandkids, ranging in age from 16 years old to 3 months - 3 boys and 3 girls.

I had one son (lost him 9 years ago); have two grandsons. My oldest grandson is getting married in August, and I have been told that I will be a great-grandmother in 2017. I certainly hope it is a girl!!!!!

I also have two stepsons and three step-grandsons.

I have four kids. They have blessed me with four granddaughters ranging in age from 7 to 2. We are looking forward to another granddaughter and our first grandson this summer.

I have three children, two of them living. My three grandchildren have a wide spread in ages: a 24-year-old granddaughter, and two grandsons, ages 18 months and 3 years. I'm very lucky that they all live nearby.

We have two children, a girl and a boy. Both are married. I have two grand children in the same order. They are my DD's kids. The girl is 3 and little bro will be a year soon.

Four daughters, four grandchildren, two boys and two girls.No great grands. One granddaughter married-no kids. One grandson getting married in September, finishing a PhD in computer Science at the same time and will start teaching at Grinnell college at almost the same time. Proud of him for turning down the big bucks offered him in the computer field to choose what he loves--teaching.

We had 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Rumor has it the stork may be making another stop late this year. Makes for a crowded table for birthdays and holidays. We are lucky enough to have many of them nearby, but some are several hours away courtesy of the Navy.

Six grandchildren. Three girls aged 19, 19, and 15. Three boys 17, 15, and 13. Highlight of my life!!

We have six grandchildren. The oldest is 18 and just graduated from high school then two girls 15 and 13. Two boys 12 and 8 and then a 3 year old girl. We have three sons so love having 4 granddaughters.

We had 5 kids (lost a son last Oct.), 3 sons and 1 daughter ...And now, we have 13 grand kids and 3 great grand sons....Will be expanding in the next year, 2 of the grand kids are getting married....

I only had 1 sister and I love, love having a big family.....

Two granddaughters, identical twins, aged 11. They are sweeter than sweet!

My ex now has two and I have NONE. Our son is 15, so it's possible, just glad I am not there yet and neither is the boy. I'll be thoroughly happy if he can wait until he finishes university, at least.

I have six grandchildren and Five great grandchildren, all wonderful of course.

We have 4 children, 13 grandchildren, ages 16 to 33, and 7 great grandchildren, 8 mo. to 10. They are scattered in CA, GA, AL, TN and here in MO.

We have 3 children, a girl and two boys. Our daughter has blessed us with two grandsons, 8 and 5. Cute little guys.

I never had children but I happily inherited a wonderful son when I married my husband, now we also have a sweet daughter in law, 5 grandchildren and one great grandchild! The oldest grandson married and gave us the great grandson. The oldest and very lovely granddaughter is in college excelling as we knew she would. The younger three, two boys and one girl are just wonderful well behaved smart and precious kids. We are proud of the whole bunch!

funny this was posted...we just got home from celebrating our oldest sweet 16 birthday...we were able to take the 2 oldest girls here with us to south bend....

Im gonna post for my grandmother she had 6 kids 5 girls one boy, oldest would have been 68 the youngest 48. Fifteen grands, the oldest 44 the youngest is around 20. Sixteen great grands the oldest 18 and two more one the way this fall. Unfortunately she wont get to meet these two as she past away last fall, I know though both of my grandparents were so proud of the family they created.

We have a son and 2 daughters. Son has 4. Rachael, 11. Twins Kate and Cole, 6 and Makenzie 5. Oldest daughter has 3. Bailey , 13, going on 21, Gavin, 12 and Kendall, 6. Youngest daughter has 1 plus 2 stepsons. Sara, 9, Andrew, 25 and Craig 23. I have 7 here tonight. Some go home tomorrow and some Thursday. Busy, busy but loving it!!

I have two kids, DH has five. Between us' we have 18 grands and about a dozen great-grands.

Reading this thread, it looks like not every family has slowed down as far as timing of first babies. I'd been reading that the concept of generations being twenty years apart was no longer valid in first world nations.

My mother was considered a uniquely older first-time mother when I was born. She was late thirties. I was never able to conceive, but DH and I were fortunate to adopt our DS. Then *I* was 'an older mother' among his peers when I was thirty.

Our DS and DIL had our DGS in their early thirties, then had our DGD six years later. I have two young grandchildren while many of you who are much younger than I am already have great-grandchildren, or are expecting them.

About the same here, chisue, though I think you've got a few years on me. My parents were in their 30s when I was born. We had our kids while in our early to late 30s. Our kids are doing the same. Chronologically, I guess I could have married grandkids, instead, the oldest is still in diapers. I'm glad I (and we) did it as we did.

My kids were born in the 70's...I was 25, 27 and 28 when I had them...back then that could be considered older....not now though.

Snidely -- I would have had children younger if I could have. I wish both our grandchildren had arrived while DH and I were much younger, too. Although we can still get down on the floor to play with Ms. Four, getting up again is another story! I also think kids deserve a fair shot at having healthy parents around for a while -- as much as financial security. Our DS doesn't even remember the grandmothers who loved him. They were both very ill before he was six.

chisue, I didn't want to have kids until I felt I had achieved a level of financial stability and the emotional stability of a solid marriage. It wasn't until my late 20s that I felt I had had my run of a more self-centered existence and was ready for the unconditional sacrifices kids deserve from their parents.

As everyone else, while growing up I'd had friends in single parent homes because of divorces and I have to say too often they were emotionally (and often economically) affected in a negative way. Children of divorced parents themselves have higher rates of divorce, all kids follow bad as well as good examples their parents set. I wanted to steer clear of that possibility as best I could. I think my kids benefited from our waiting.

I am grandmother to Shan....my daughter and her husband's cat. They have opted to not have children.

BTW, I was 34 when my daughter was born....married for 15 years. I wanted to be sure my marriage was stable as well as our finances. I don't regret waiting at all. Smartest thing I ever did.

I agree with being 'solid' in your marriage, and I think that's why our DS and DIL waited a bit. I'm still sorry not to be younger when my grands are here!

I'm "child of divorce", from back when *nobody* I knew had divorced parents. A 'bad example' can work both ways. I chose my DH with that experience in mind. I was 23. It was "OK" for us to be married in his Catholic church because I was considered to be in danger of becoming a childless spinster. Not LOL.

From what I've observed I think you could be an exception, congrats for that.

A number of contributors in this forum have mentioned one way or another about being divorced or having been married more than once. i wonder if many of them have kids who have not themselves had marriages end in divorce? The tendencies I think I've seen over time maybe aren't representative.

My parents were married for life, that is what I wanted too and as far as I can see it should continue as is so we are on track lol. Husband's parents also married for life. He had a previous marriage before me, high school kids got in a situation and married young, didn't work. I was happy that it did happen because it gave us a son that I would not have experienced otherwise. Son has a very strong marriage and family values, as do their children. It was a blessing to hear that we have a new great granddaughter born on the 9th, a wonderful addition to the family.

My mother thought she was going into early menopause, turned out to be me! She was pregnant. So I am much younger than my siblings,it was almost like being an only child.

I have two daughters ages 36 and 38. No husbands or steady boyfriends, so no grandchildren. I'm giving up hope. But there are worse things.

Ok, so I'm not a grandparent and really hope I'm not one anytime soon given that I have a few more years before I hit 40. I did want to contribute to the thread though as I just spoke with my grandmother yesterday. I don't get to speak with her too often because she is very hard of hearing and lives several Provinces away from me, but every time I speak to her, it always chokes me up. My grandmother will be 89 this year. She has 7 children, 20 grandchildren (2 are not biological) and I forgot how many great grandchildren (I think it's 37). I'm one of the youngest grandkids so the majority of us have children. On that side of the family most had kids in their early 20's except my siblings. On my other side, I was the only one to have kids in my 20's. All the rest were in their 30's.

My husband's grandmother is 98 this year. She had her 2 kids "later" at age 31 and 39, but my husband's father was 21 when my husband was born. One thing that does make me sad is that my kids were so young when she was sharp cognitively that they don't really remember how great of a person she was. I see draw backs to both young and old, but I am glad I had my kids in my 20's. I did get lucky that I have a fantastic spouse and we have one another's backs. My sister had my nephew when she was 35 and her and her husband separated 1 year later. They finally just finalized the divorce not that long ago. I feel like there really isn't a set appropriate age for everyone.

So many interesting stories, I thank all of you for your posts...they extend from grandchildren to great grandchildren, extended families and step families.

Raven, I can relate to being like an only because my parents were in their 40's and had already raised two boys and a girl. My husband comes from a very odd circumstance. His mother had grown children and his father had grandchildren...maybe even great grandchildren and they got married and had six children in six years. His father was 68 when he was born, and his mother was 38. They had three children after him. The baby died and then the mother died....my husband was 6. His father died when he was 12.
