Looks great! Having a nice space will get you more visitors. My mother lives in a small 1 bedroom senior apartment. Its decorated better than most in the building and she gets so many visitors. People say they just feel so comfortable they want to visit. I think it is very important for seniors mental health to live in a warm welcoming space. It really does encourage more visitors. Kudos to your family!

Debrak, my grandparents had a two bedroom when they first moved out there and their place was used on the tour of the facilities to show how personal you can make it. They got dining tickets in return :) After my grandpa passed, grandma moved to a 1 BR apartment and was still on the tour. I bet they'll keep asking to show her place :)

I think this shows decorating doesn't have to be expensive. You can take things you already have, maybe add a few new things, and rearrange in a new location.

That is really nice! Sooo much better than the room my fil had, but that was in a nursing home. Your aunt, cousin and grandma did do a great job. I could live there.

Too funny!

You know, when they made the decision to move out there from their house (over a decade ago!), I was pretty sad. It was such a special place for us all and I had a terrible vision of what the new place would be like. The first time I walked through that new door, I was enveloped with the feeling of the old house :) Now, I realize that they made the best decision for themselves and I'm glad that she's been in such good health (with a few glitches) to be able to stay in a facility that allows so much personalization. She'll be 92, soon. I wish I lived closer, but I travel up there every summer with my kids to visit with her and my other family members. Not often enough! I used to live an hour or so away, instead of 12 hrs.

Beautiful! My mom did much the same thing when she went into a retirement apartment in Oregon. She passed away a couple of years ago, I put most of her 1950's "good goods" into storage and am planning to have it moved here in Texas once we finish our remodel.

So much from our parents and grandparents is just irreplaceable as far as quality and history goes; wonder what my kids will do when I pass away (oops, I think I know!), lol!

It's sad that people expect the elderly to "give up" their home and move and get new things. Part of the good life is being surrounded by your special memories. This is a perfect example of how to make the transition so much easier. God bless your grandmother.

It's lovely! So warm and personal. I'm going to show this to my 89 year old mom, who still lives at home and has very negative ideas about retirement communities and assisted living.
