Comments (13)I joined this forum a few months ago, and I LOVE it. I like reading about other people's experiences and trials. This has been very helpful in the construction of my pond now. I have built several smaller ponds in the past, but none the size of the one I am building now. It is only 3000 gallons, which I know from what I have read here, is small to most of you, but it is very large for me. The biggest I have ever had in the past is 250 gallon. My fish never get larger than 8", so I am ready to see them grow. Hence the reason for my upgrading. This pond stuff is ADDICTIVE. It started as a small 90 gallon fountain several years ago, and I have been hooked ever since. Well.....I appreciate reading here, and I have learned a lot. I guess we'll find out how good the advice has been when my pond is done:-) I will post pictures in a couple weeks when I am done. Amanda...See MoreCrap in my Manure?
Comments (7)There are a lot of news stories on it, and even a website devoted to sludge issues. Here is a story from OCA and the link to Sludge News. The People Who Want You to Believe Toxic Sludge Is Good for You Members of the Organic Consumers Association staff went undercover to a meeting of San Francisco Public Utilities Commission employees and the toxic sludge industry last week. What we found surprised us. We figured, in such a green city, that SFPUC employees would keep an arms length distance from for-profit sludge companies like Synagro that make their money dumping city sludge on rural lands. We thought that they would be trying to figure out green alternatives to flushing waste away with clean drinking water. Little did we know. SFPUC, Synagro and CASA, the state lobbying group for all of California's city sewer commissions, are mounting a coordinated effort to salvage the business-as-usual practice of flushing household and industrial waste away with clean water and then contaminating farmland with toxic sludge leftover when the water is removed. They see San Francisco's sludge giveaway program as an essential component of their national campaign to build public acceptance for the disposal of toxic sewage sludge on yards, gardens and farms. They will fight any effort to shut the program down, and specifically named OCA allies the Center for Food Safety and RILES, who filed a legal petition with the San Francisco to stop the sludge giveaway, as enemies of their campaign. The scary thing is, this public-private trifecta is well-resourced and unscrupulous. The Synagro rep boasted of earning the support of a local university for a toxic sludge project by promising a $25,000 yearly donation. The CASA rep talked about using "Congressional funny money" to fund studies that would provide science that backed-up the industry. And, the SFPUC rep, the public employee, stood by them smiling and nodding as they applauded her for not backing down in the face of public opposition to the contamination of San Francisco's green space with toxic sludge. http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=EeX%2Fe1RJUWKt8QhKYN%2BukBxKH%2BWklaGt Click the link to read more. Comments (24)Yes, I 'm glad you popped in to comment, shannon! I heard Friday's evacuation for Lake Francis area has now been lifted. That is wonderful news for your mom. Some electricity has been restored to your Mom's area, according to our newspaper. If she gets her power from "The 300 mw Colgate Powerhouse," she has power. (Am I the only person who doesn't know the name of my powerhouse?) Honestly, I am in no danger. It appears to be burning away from me right now. Pray for the firefighters, the homes in imminent danger and of course, the poor wild life. Re: Arson. Shannon! I saw three fires too, in the beginning. Several of us (yahoos in the church parking lot) were talking about it and initially I hedged my bet on arson as well. Then a local fire chief dropped by the look out area to check it out and he though it was an electrical fire because of the three fire plumes. So us yahoos dropped the arson idea and decided we should bet with him. LOL! Maybe the bird triggered the electrical lines to spark in more than one area? Who knows. I am no expert on electrical wires or fires. As of last evening, the fire has spread to 3,260 acres. The weather isn't cooperating but we have an impressive army of firefighters on it. The paper said we have about 1,582 firefighters from around the state, assisted by 96 engines, 13 helicopters, four air tankers and 18 bulldozers. Five firefighters have been injured, but the injuries were considered minor, thank goodness. My niece is still evacuated and the road to her house is closed. We're optimistic because they don't have a lot of fuel around their house, making it easier to defend....See MoreMy 11yo says Raven ceasarstone looks fake
Comments (51)My crazy deadline of trying to finish this remodel by the end of July was really stressing me out. Yesterday morning, I decided that I would choose some color of Ceasarstone. I simply had not seen a granite that went along with my vision or that I just loved. I learned that some marbles probably were in my price range, but for a couple of other reasons, didn't seem to be the right choice. I was on a mission to choose a Ceasarstone and had my mind made up. Since my DH was home for the day, I engaged him and said that WE were going to choose TODAY. I took some backsplash samples and we found one that we both liked, brought it home and the boys liked it too. I am happy because I think it will be an easy surface to maintain, it is light and that works for my smaller kitchen. (and I don't have undercab. lighting) My sister said it reminded her of our grandmother's old formica tabletop. (Which was red and we have happy memories of it), but I am going to own this decision (and try not to re-think it), but mostly, embrace any of its "fakeness!" We chose Ceasarstone Nougat. I came back today and see that it is the same as gracesantacruz! We also have a beachy feel to our home and my seaglass collection was my original backsplash inspiration. I just want to say thanks again for sharing your pictures and for the comments and encouragement (erikanh) As another comment on this thread, the fabricator said that 3 years ago they did a very small portion of quartz countertops, but these days it is about 50% of their work. Also, I ran across this article about a kitchen of the year to be displayed in New York this summer with Raven Ceasarstone countertop. http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Caesarstone-1011570.html I think the Raven has an elegant look....See Moret_d_harvey
