11 years agoGot maple tree seeds?? The whole back 3/4 acre looks like this, and they are beginning to germinate in my 7 mulched shrub/perennial beds. There is just one maple in the middle of our back yard. 99% of these belong to the neighbors 5 maples to the west. We are going to spend the next 5 years pulling up little maple trees.

Comments (10)Gazania, I didn't know anything about Richard Teague before you just told us, but I looked him up and he was an extraordinary guy! So interesting and a subject I know absolutely nothing about. It's funny how something like a car, an everyday item, could have such an interesting and crazy kind of existence. I don't think I will look at another car in the same way ever again. Of course I knew people designed cars, but I never knew what all went into that process. Fascinating. Comments (17)Schoolhouse, yes, it is a moss rose. I've had it for quite a few years, moved it twice but it has never 'taken off' for me like some other once-bloomers that spread themselves around. 11 years agoMy neighbor's Norway Maples (invasive species) deposited more seeds this year than in the previous 5 years. Rather than trying to pull them in the lawn, I spray a selective herbicide. In the flower beds and veggie garden, I use a long digging tool to get them out.

11 years agoWe have a maple, too, and lots of 'helicopter' seeds this year.
This is rose 'William Lobb,' a moss rose. A very thorny, fragrant, tall rose.
