Opinions? Should granite window sill edge match counter?
Comments (5)Sorry, I wasn't crystal clear- wrote before my first cup of coffee. For the greenhouse windows, we are getting granite window sills/stools. My question is, as Casey and tkbalt were able to surmise, should the granite window sills in kitchen match the granite edge of the counter or the wood edge of all the 'other' windows in the house. So far, one each! :>) pcjs- yes, it is very tricky doing the return edges on those wooden stools, and really no one will ever see them unless they press their nose up against the outside wall- but we know they're there- and they sure are pretty!...See MoreGranite Selection Help - Opinions Wanted
Comments (12)Unfortunately, they can't template without the sink, so I need to choose it before we finalize granite. In addition, the sink can take several weeks if it's not in stock, so I don't want to wait and then have cabinets and no counters for 3-4 weeks. They told me the second one was called Sea Pearl, but when I google images of that, I am sure that is not correct. It's going to be a transitional kitchen. We purchased white shaker cabinets (Kemper - White - arriving tomorrow!) and Provincial floors. I've been toyed with Fireclay tile in the Paseo shape for the backsplash, but I really don't think that will work so well with the second granite. Other than a wood dining room table and an oak sideboard, everything else will be new. The fire place surround is traverine, but I think it's far and neutral enough to be irrelevant. Here's the empty space. The floors now match the section to the right side of the picture. Here's the plan, but it's probably too small to be useful. From the inspiration pictures, you can see that the first slab is the clear choice. I think my trouble is that I don't know what I would do with the second slab. I don't see it in my mind's eye. I don't know how I would finish it. Comments (2)Just to throw you one more curve: I've had narual hardwood floor sin my kitchen for 20+ years with dogs and kids, who used to race their tricycles and chase the dogs around the house. The floors are still in pretty good shape although may need some refinishing at one point. We used what was called at the time "Pacific Strong", similar to today's Bona Commercial. Only drawback (advantage) is that one can't see the dirt on the floor....See MoreNeed your expert opinions in selecting granite for kitchen
Comments (2)This is obviously just my personal opinion; but I when using a contrasting wood for the island, I prefer the same countertop material as the perimeter on it. If you were to use the same color wood; then I'd say use a contrasting counter material. Shaker style is simple (which I love) and I love the look of a light counter (BR)on a light perimeter. I think the chocolate stained island will look beautiful with the Bianco Romano as well....See MoreAnne
