What kind of conifer bush is this??! pics

Hey, originally I thought this was some kind of gold cypress, however I do have one of those in my backyard, and honestly, the leaves (needles) on this are totally different. More "jagged if you will....bush also has a more "jagged", form to it..it's a beautiful bush, probably 6' wide, maybe 4' tall....Unfortunately the only picture I have of it as a "whole" is the last picture, it's the bush on the far right. Unto the pics...Thanks!

compare with Juniperus chinensis 'Daub's Frosted'.

Hmm....searching that led me to something called "Saybrook gold juniper" which does look alot like it..

Thats an excellent tree with an interesting story. Nice close up on the leaves too. Haven't seen any at the Big Box stores yet so someone at least put a little thought into plating it. You're lucky! Kind of hard to learn anything if all you're going to do is post pics on the internet for others to figure out. There is a methodology for doing this, called dichotomous keys. Learn to use and you'll have advanced far beyond just getting one answer right. +oM

Well...there are a ton of Norway Spruces around here, but they look nothing like this. I should have added, that the "candles" (if that's what they are called?) or the shoots that come out, are like the thickness of a marker. They are not nearly as thick is Norway Spruces,....i think. It's got the form/structure of a Hinoki Cypress, which is what I thought it was until I walked up to it, and realized it wasn't a cypress obviously.

Although site's list it at 2'-3' ft tall, and mine is 4-5'..I don't know.

all size estimates in conifers are at ten years ...

at 20 .. simply presume they will be twice that.. in each dimension ...

and are you positive its never been hacked back ... you planted it.. and you know its whole history???

many of these plants .. are near look alikes ... but vary in one characteristic ... and yet.. given 20 years... even those kinda disappear ...

on some of this stuff.. unless you planted it.. and bought it from a qualified conifer seller ... you may never know the exact cultivar

Yeah I didn't plan it. I've only owned the house for 3 years now. House was built in 72'. So yeah who knows how old it is. I don't really care if I know the "exact cultivar" I guess....I'll call it a gold juniper lol. Close enough! It's a remarkable plant though. Especially at dusk...it seems to kind of glow.

the potential problems would have been ... if you wanted another duplicate ... and that would not really be possible.. except for rooting your own ... to insure such ...

take the time to cruise thru a page or two of posts in this forum ... and see what can be done with conifers ... with this caveat ...

plants are planted .... to hide the foundation .. NOT ON THE FOUNDATION ... and your prior owner planted them according to the size they were at sale.. with no concept that the little chuckers would grow ...

so if and when you get tired of shearing them into submission ... consider reworking the whole bed ... in relation to future growth ...

and do search out more than the usual suspects the bigboxstore offers ...

could also be a 'Gold Coast' ,,,they can get taller like that
