New to growing things and can't figure out what's going on...
Comments (3)The odds favor the problem as being over-watering, or a soil too water-retentive. Plants do best when the entire soil mass is barely damp. They do poorly when a fraction of the soil remains saturated between waterings, and the larger the volume that remains saturated, the worse they do. AIR, is as important in the root zone as water. The process of water/nutrient uptake is energy driven, and requires plenty of oxygen to be performed with efficiency. Your soil choice and watering habits are tightly linked and very important to how well your plants CAN do, and how easy or difficult it is for you to bring along healthy plants. That's enough for now - I won't bombard you with tons of information, but I'll leave you with the thought that knowledge is the fastest way to a green thumb. I'll leave you a link that covers most of the basics. If you decide you want more details or to learn more about growing, let me know and I'll furnish another link or two that should provide a considerable degree of illumination. Comments (18)I don't see/smell any trace that OP is the other woman in her relationship with her father. I feel sorry for the father who lost so much joy with the family due to his insecure, control freak new wife. "Does your husband and his mother go to lunch and other leisure activities without including you? Would it be okay if they did?" - Why is it not OK? This question is beyond silly. In our family, we always have alone time with our parents and children. I still remember the wonderful time and conversation with my own father even it has been 40-50 years. HD was his mother's favorite, they always had private time together when we were on vacation visiting her. We also have great memory spending alone time with our own children in various countries and cities. southernsummer, do your own biological children spend alone time with you or your husband? If they do, does it make them the "other woman or man"? May be because I am the type of person who does not always remember my own birthday, I fail to see the big deal of spending time with your husband exact on your birthday, especially the daughter does not live with the father, and you live with him every single day of the year. Why cannot you find another day to celebrate? In your other posts it seems you have problem over Christmas gifts from your husband to his children. Again, I fail to understand the issues. In our own family we don't see children until Christmas break due to all of us have busy careers. We are so appreciative that they spend vacation and airfares, expenses coming home to see us ( they could well afford traveling to anywhere in the world if they want to). As always, we give high dollar gifts to indirectly compensate the expense they incur. If the once a year gifts impact your financial future, you need to have a serious discussion with your husband, otherwise, why interfere? Relationship between each parent and child is unique, it does not need to be according to others wishes/rules....See MoreI am stuck-trying to figure out a tricky small morning room
Comments (30)Well I found this "down and out" mount and think it may solve my woes. I will have to deal with or patch the hole in the wall behind the tv-but I may leave a smaller opening for components and such. The house was built in 2000 and I just think that was before people started getting super large tv's, so I won't feel too bad about filling it up (having a carpenter re wall it and patch and paint, I can't see such a small space holding a tv again. Anyway here it is, it just swings up and down and out (it will clear fireplace mantles), you can also get it with a pivot head to angle it for viewing preference. It has great reviews, so I am kind of hopeful it can solve the tv issue. Oh and I would probably paint the wall bracket to match the wall so it blended in better....See MorePool Newbie, help me figure things out!
Comments (6)Coverstar is a great brand of automatic cover. If you design it into the pool build you will not even know it is there. It is recessed into the ground at the end of the pool and the cover pit os covered over with a suspended block slab. You pour the blocks from the same mix as the rest of your deck so it blends in really well. The rails get mounted on the underside of the canteleiver coping edge. Normal overhang is 1.5" however you should spec a 3" overhang to account for out of square which can complicate the rail installs if the pool is even slightly out of square. A heat pump would be a great supplemental heating system for your pool, however with an attached hot tub you want a BIG gas heater. You dont want to keep you hot tub at 104 all day every day. You need a 300 - 400k BTU gas heater to bring the spa from pool temp up to 104 in about 20-30 minutes. Automation is preference for yourself or your builder. Hayward, Jandy or Pentair are the big 3 choices....See MoreJulie Hankerson
