Help!! powdery white stuff on cactis
Comments (2)Could be mealy bugs. Wipe away the 'white stuff' with a q-tip and alchol, it won't hurt the plant. And spray with a general insecticide. The link has some images and more info. Comments (3)It is a mold that will not harm your plants. Breathing in too much of it when applying the mulch can cause chest congestion which is easily dealt with by taking Mucinex. I had a tree service dump their full truck of wood chips on my drive earlier this year. Some of it had been in the truck for awhile and had that mold in it. The tree service guy warned me about it and told me what to do if it bothered me. I mulched my entire backyard with it because I have giant dogs. One of the names of the mold is "Dog Vomit Fungus". When it dries out it is a powdery grey. A botanist at the University of Illinois told me what it was....See Moreblack powdery stuff on my leaves
Comments (5)I've done some reading. apparently the peppers are still quite edible as long as I keep washing them off, but it interferes with photosynthesis. so I'm considering taking a bucket of a mild soap solution and wiping every leaf, top and bottom. I figure this will take out a lot of the aphids and whiteflies while I'm at it. the downside is this will probably be a long project, even with only 14 plants. any thoughts on doing this? good or bad idea?...See MoreWhite powdery stuff on leaves of my rose bush
Comments (2)Hi B2, Yes! Roses do very definitely get mildew! I'm linking a thread where I expounded upon my own personal theory on how to minimize the problem, and there will probably be others along with info on what works best for them. When I was in the green industry I used some of the different commercial mildew suppressants, with little improvement, and here at home I had tried the "home remedy" kinds of things like baking soda and milk, but the only thing I've found to work for me is the "watering theory" I talk about in the linked thread. The swap WAS fun! Hope you can make it to the Fall Swap! (Hope I can make it too! I'm taking my vacation a couple weeks earlier than normal this year, and I happened to think, about a week ago, that that might keep me out of the mix this fall! Will just have to wait till then and see what date gets picked!) Good luck with your roses, Skybird Here is a link that might be useful: RMG: Roses...See More- 8 years ago
