My Mystery Quilt (with pix)
Comments (26)Yes Dan the mystery quilt aka "don't plan the whole project in advance quilt" will take me completely out of my comfort zone. So what size will the mystery quilt in April for the S-N-S be when finished, and will we get to keep what we make? How much fabric is this mystery quilt going to require - how many different types and how much yardage - LOL see I'm already planning? I will post the rules / sign up thread for the February Seeds-N-Stitches Swap later in January - we will be swapping 4 floral print fabric quarters (18" x 21" and 18" x 22" will be acceptable sizes) and swap them with 1 partner. I am going to keep the February S-N-S Swap nice and simple as I have quilting to do, lots of quilting to do this year! Well off to measure fabric for the border on the baby quilt I am making. :-) Best to you, Sandra...See MoreOdd Ball design #2
Comments (9)Thanks Dianne, I don't recall the couple who commissioned it. I'm pretty sure they weren't personal friends. Some people or more likely, their kids, can be hard on bed covers and quilts. Some care for them as precious items. I came across the picture of a large-scale log cabin that was probably my first queen-size quilt, which I used on my bed. To this day, I have no idea what happened to it. I'm sure it got put away when I did new pieces, but what happened next??? My early quilts, like that log cabin, were mostly scrap quilts, using a variety of fabrics that I wouldn't normally put in a quilt now. (I still have scraps though) As a self-taught quilter, I didn't know much about what were then established requirements i.e. use cotton fabric. I have never really let convention limit my choices, but they surely improved when I could afford to buy fabric. Makes you wonder what masterpieces might have been made a couple hundred years ago when only scraps were available. Still, what masterpieces we might have missed if they had....See MoreTwo more Rag Quilts finished (pics)
Comments (16)I tried pressing after washing then found out just folding selvage to salvage and kinda pressing with my hands worked just as well. I have noticed that the flannel stretches alot more when washed am thinking thats because I washed the sizing out. Last time I was at my LQS they have some nice Rag quilts and they didn,t wash first they did tell me to use a small stitch around the edge it helps with the raveling. The fabric coming this week is in 5yd pieces I really don,t want to try washing that. I,m learning as I go found out when I start washing the finished quilt I just run it through the rinse cycle twice without drying then run them through a complete cycle a couple of times drying in between I use no soap in the washer. Comments (7)Perfect for a baby or child's quilt. What is the pattern name? Of the precuts, I like jelly rolls the most, and always try to keep a few on hand. I find they are easy for traveling and there are so many patterns avail for quickish, mindless sewing. Nice job, as always. What fabric are you using for your OBW? I've made a few Stack n Whacks (fun projects) and would like to make a OBW when I have some more time. OBW is a serious commitment in time and space....See Moreday2day
