Do you love/hate your hood/hood liner? Why?
Comments (3)I have written about my Tradewind liner many times on here . It is wonderful. We have used it hard for 7 years. It is quiet and efficient and easy to clean . We have a 1400 cfm/54" wide system with the roof mounted blower. Sjerin has the unit also, after reading my reviews. and told me on another thread the other day how great it is. Our GC built the custom surround for the liner. He installed all duct work and the roof blower. It is wonderfully quiet and I only use it on low or med most of the time. We stir fry and deep fry a lot so I have tested it to the max for years. I remove the baffles weekly and clean them. They are always a mess :) A great sign. After all these years I have never cleaned one spot of grease off of my open shelves adjacent to the cooking area or off of the wood surround. No need to...it all goes on the baffles. I hope that you can find what will serve you well. Oh and no I do not have nor did I need make up air. We have 11 and 12 ft ceilings in an 1890 home so there is plenty of air. I have no problem with my gas fire places while using the blower. Here are 2 pics and if you click on it there are many more in the albums. c...See MoreHoned Caesarstone - do you have it? Love it? Comments (7)Ditto sas95. We had seriously looked at Quartz products and I was drawn to honed finishes. The fabricator/Stone yard told us that many quartz makers are no longer doing honed finishes, or very little because they are harder to maintain and were not holding up well. We ended up going with a granite, so it was a moot point for us and I can't share any personal experiences....See MoreOkay, WHY do you hate/love a trend?
Comments (107)Didn't someone (Pal?) have a post a few years back about why we hated some trends, and that one reason revolved around what we grew up with? Because I honestly don't care for MCM - at least the stuff that I grew up with -- the starburst wood clock, formica countertops, the hanging chained light fixtures, the gold carpeting, specific colors such as harvest gold, avocado green, some tones of rust/orange, etc. Meanwhile, a friend of mine who is 12 years younger loves MCM. And, it's that I don't want to live with those things (and they don't fit into the style of my house) but I don't mind seeing them in other people's houses as long as those things "fit" the style and are well-done. Then, I can appreciate the style... but I still don't want to "live" in the house with the style. Also, now that I'm older and have traveled, I don't like things that just purchased to "pull the design together" - like when stagers are trying to neutralize a room with objects that pull the colors together but don't have any real "worth." Stuff that doesn't really have any meaning or purpose. I like to decorate with things that remind me of places that I've been or that are made by artists/craftsmen (doesn't have to be expensive) rather than mass-produced. When I was just out of college, I had more of those decorating pieces from Target, etc. because I hadn't traveled and lived enough (plus, no money) to have accumulated many items that had personal meaning, yet....See MoreDo you have a supercabinet? Love it or hate it?
Comments (13)IMO, the more you section off your pantry into individual compartments which need to be opened separately, the less organized it will be. Or else you have to be super meticulous about where you store stuff. For example, even if you ALWAYS ALWAYS put tuna cans in the middle shelf, and tomato sauce cans in the bottom shelf, etc. etc., then the one time you come home from the grocery store with one more tuna can than will fit in that middle shelf, what do you do with it? If you put it in the top or bottom shelf, then forget about it... well, there goes your organization! To me, the ideal is a closet pantry where you can see everything at a glance, and move things around fairly easily. If that is not possible then the fewer compartments and divisions you have the better. When you buy that jar of artichoke hearts for a particular recipe, and you don't ever buy artichoke hearts, well you have to store it somewhere... now a week later you need the jar - where DID you put it? Again, the fewer different places you have to look the better. That picture reminds me of all those ads for reorganizing your closets. Miraculously, the people in those ads always own 3 white shirts and two tan ones, three pairs of tan pants and two brown ones, five pairs of shoes, etc. OK, well MY wardrobe is a tad bit more diversified. I'd just like to see one of those ads where they take a REAL person's closet and reorganize that with their product. And the same goes here. Let's see that same set up with food from a real person's pantry. THEN we'll see how practical it is....See Moreenduring
