Comments (25)Although there is much color variation in all the photos, some due to camera and time of day/color of the light itself, there is variation in the plants themselves. Here is the picture I took yesterday. I thought I got this plant in 2014, but what I did was split out what I thought was a sport from the main portion. I got this in 2012, and the one on the left now has 4 eyes. The version on the right has I think 3 eyes. I got them as a 2-eye Brother Stefan from MITS in 2012. When I was ready to cut the crown apart, I discovered they were two separate pieces, so I teased the roots apart. Now I believe that the one on the right was a tissue culture variation/sport. It had been a solid green when I did the operation. Now for the first time since 2012, it has a medium greenish middle color. and could conceivably be a BS too. ARE BOTH HALVES BROTHER STEFAN? Or perhaps could the wonky colored one be what is sometimes called Stepbrother? This is the best either one has ever looked. so I will leave them where they be in my garden with morning sun and broken shade until late afternoon. I'd forgotten the history of the plant in my garden, but browsing through my old hosta photos (with keywords) revealed the facts. My thousands of identified photos is worth the trouble it takes to keep them. I'll be glad when I consolidate my old hosta photos with the current year on ONE computer....See MoreBrother Stefan
Comments (14)I received my Brotha Stefan from Naylor today. Soaked it in the water bucket a few hours while I was preparing the soil. I go get the bucket to pull it out and lo and behold two plants came out ! So, I put it back in the bucket and prepared another hole, now I have two Brutha Stefan's ! Naylor also sent me a Dancing Queen with two eyes but I left it together, as it looked like it would have been difficult to pull apart....See MoreBrother Stefan or Hudson Bay? Comments (8)I would also recommend Brother Stefan. Mine was new last year and really impressed me not only with its growth, but colour AND rugosity. As I am still out of the country, I have no idea what it looks like today, but this photo from September 19th shows very nice colour and the corrugation just adds to its good looks. It is exposed to sun from sunup until 1:30, at which time it is in shade provided by the house for the rest of the day. This next photo is from late August 2015 and the colouring is brighter due to no afternoon shade, for comparison. For a relatively young plant, I am impressed with the amount of corrugation already. Love this hosta, don't have HB but feel you won't be disappointed if you choose BS....See MoreBrother Stefan variegation on immature plant
Comments (17)Thanks Ken, you could post some in process photos. It's always fun to look back. If it weren't for my wife taking some pics, I wouldn't have any before photos. I did look up Hosta House and I might have time to stop by on my way out of town. I did stop at J and J Nursery last night as it is nearby and it may be the largest Nursery I've seen except for places like Wade and Gattons in Ohio, but those are different - plant farms? Not to totally hijack the thread, here's a pic of the Brother Stefan I picked up this year. I love that it is already showing the corrugation and I hope transplanting it doesn't set it back....See Moresandyslopes z5 n. UT
