Vessel sink doesn't drain
Comments (36)lisa- The overflow in a sink has one function: to handle an overflow if the water level gets too high; it has no role in relation to the drain functioning properly. Any properly installed sink drain consists of two parts: 1) the pipe from the bottom of the sink to the P-trap and then on to the sewer, and 2) the vent pipe (usually in the wall) that is connected to the drain pipe and admits air so that there is no suction effect when a large volume of water is going down the drain. If there is no vent, or if the vent gets plugged up, then the water running down the drain tends to cause a suction effect and the water drains slowly. Conversely, if a sink is properly vented, it doesn't matter whether it has an overflow or not. Does that make sense to you?...See MoreCaulk doesn't stick to stainless steel sink
Comments (55)My son-in-law said the same thing. I have 2 small blocks All Marble and Granite gave to me in case I ever needed to match the granite. That should have been a red flag. Can you recommend a granite place ? I found 2 more (for repair) and both said NO! There is a back splash and they gave me a ledge on the window sill. Can you believe I never looked under the sink before and saw the wooden blocks? I will also call my contractor since he deals with granite people. I should have had him oversee this. As I said, my girlfriend found a smaller polaris sink. I am so fed up, I am thinking, if I have to replace the granite, I will use my corian overmount sink that I still have from when I had a laminate counter top....See MoreSoapstone installed; doesn't follow radius of the sink
Comments (5)They can "fix" it on site, if you want them to, but they'll probably require you to sign a waiver about the countertop potentially cracking there. The reason you have slight "radiused" corners is because that's stronger than a square corner. Square corners create more stressors for the stone slab, and they can lead to cracks down the road. This is why you have a slight radius to all corners, whether inside or outside. It's stronger, and it protects your investment better. Now, they should have explained this to you on the front end and let you choose whether or not you wanted to proceed with a "square" (with signed waiver) or "round" corner, but that's the reason you have something that looks "wrong" to your eye. If they had explained this to you from the beginning, you would have known what to expect and that this wasn't an "error"....See MoreKohler doesn't provide sink templates anymore?!?!!!
Comments (10)Thank you everyone for your responses! The counter with the sinks is in and is absolutely gorgeous! We still have the shower curbs and faucet holes yet to go for fabrication (hole delay is my fault - decision paralysis!). They'll be back tomorrow. Photos to come after plumbing, electrical and glass. In this day of DIY I'm astounded that Kohler decided to stop providing templates and then only make them available in an autocad program. If DH and I were brave enough to DIY counters, we'd be in big trouble. Every other sink mfgr on the shelf at the plumbing supply have templates. I wrote to Kohler but we'll have to wait for them to be back from the holidays. I'll let you know their response. For those who were concerned about my fabricator - thank you but don't be. We've used these guys for several stone counters over the last ten years. I actually made a huge mistake five years ago and hired a young 'professional' with fancy laser equipment and a beautiful showroom because my guys were really busy and honestly I was dazzled by the technology v. my old dudes in hip waders, with hoses and grinders. Huge huge mistake. Mr fancy pants screwed up my Azul Bahia island (cha-ching!) and guess who had to fix it? My old dudes with grinders - the artisans. They may not be fancy but they know everythingbthere is to know about stone fabrication. The business has been handed down from father to son continuously since the 1800s. They are now the 4th and 5th generation to run the shop. They started with tombstones and and still provide them (now referred to as monuments) as well as being the oldest counter fabricators around. They do the cutting and edging in the shop as well as all kinds of cool hand crafted treatments and cut & polish the holes on site outside on special tables. There really isnt dust due to the water. They are true artisans. The template was more for me to be able to visualize where I wanted the sinks placed in my Calacatta counter. I wanted to get it just right. They had no problem making templates from the cardboard box. If you're in Northern CA, I can't say enough good things about them. Feel free to pm me for their name and info. --- I sound like a commercial -- perhaps I should ask for a discount on our next project hehe....See More- 9 years ago
