Wal-Mart, love it or hate it?
Comments (24)Hello everyone! I'm definitely NOT a fan of Wal-Mart, although I can appreciate the reasons why people shop there. Wal-Mart has extremely low prices, but I am absolutely NOT convinvced their products are of good quality. One of the few things I bought was a garden-hose-spray-nozzle for .99 which broke within a few days. At a yard sale, I got 2 used garden-hose-spray-nozzles for $1 each, which have held up faithfully. 4 years ago, My mom bought a kids' mountain bike for her grandson. What a piece of crap that was. Crappy enough to make a kid not want to ride a bike. Yes, it was very inexpensive, but who cares, if its just junk? I bought my mountain bike on local-ebay, 2nd hand, for a lot less than what it'd cost new. Walmart clothes: decent, but Target is far better. I'm lucky to live in a metropolitan area, where thrift stores are chock-full of good clothes. Nobody does a better job of being thrifty than me: I'm enthusiastic about buying things 2nd hand, at thrift stores, auctions, on craigslist.org, in the local paper, etc. I get a lot of great things, used. Where I live, anything I need can be found for a good price at smaller stores (...every store is smaller than Walmart). And if paying a little more means supporting a smaller and/or local store, I will do so. Smaller stores sometimes have great sales! I believe in supporting small/smaller businesses, because I believe they are healthy for our economy, from which everyone benefits. I wrote a letter to the mayor of Oregon City, thanking her for saying "no" to a Walmart store being built here. (She wrote me back!) Another point: Don't buy anything just because it's dirt cheap. Garbage service costs, and the landfills have enough junk already. How much useless crap could a household possibly need?...See MorePretty Wal*Mart Plant. What is it?
Comments (6)I dont think im right, please correct me if im not right, could it be a gardenia? If i am right then id be surprised, i dont own one of them, so i cant help you on care, growing conditions etc, sorry. Ive only seen them few time before. Just my guess, also it would be best to put this under the name that plant catagory towards the top forum page under garden web galleries, but it should be fine here too, just you might get an answer there faster, hope this helps....See MoreIf you hate Wal Mart as much as I do ......
Comments (40)Actually, I am prepared to buy the wife a fancy, dancy sewing machine, to make me some shirts, but she is hedging due to time. I can find fabric, just not finished goods. Pants I can find.....if I want khaki, or jeans. Not much else. Of course, they keep cutting them smaller, so I keep having to increase the size, despite the fact my belt fits the exact same hole as always. The other issue, is they use nylon zippers in pants now. How stupid is that? Might be ok for a dress, but doesn't hold up at all in men's pants. Nope. I ain't getting into any more businesses, whatsoever. Too old, and more than ready to retire. If the idiots in the fashion industry can't recognize their problems, then clothes will just have to be left on the rack. Oh yeah.....used to have to take extreme measures to make garments look good in fashion......including cutting the back of women's tops, so they would hang right in the front. (grin) If you knew all the tricks and manipulations used in photographing this stuff, you would be pretty surprised. Even with beaded and sequined gowns......we used a whole lot of pinning and clipping, to "adjust" garments. The stylist was the most important person on the team. It was their job to make the garments look good on the model.....any way they could. CD of the day...."Lullaby for the Moon", koto and shakuhachi....See MoreWow, I just won a $1000 WalMart gift certificate
Comments (14)One time I got a book in the mail. It was called Shabby Chic and I didn't remember ordering it, but thought maybe I did, because I like that sort of thing. Opened it up and there was a card in it....I had gone to a country decorating magazine site...one of the first things I had ever done when I got webtv, and entered a sweepstakes, and actually won. So, at least that was a legitimate prize. I think it was just about the only thing I have ever won tho....See MoreOregongirl61
