Look for photos of Crimson King. It's shorter ~ 24inches. And mine blooms earlier than any of the TB's. 1893 or 1898 ?

It may photograph redder or bluer than your photo. The name is deceptive. Not red at all.

Eleanor Roosevelt? Which is short, so probably not.

Jim, are you sure that is feedback? Mine doesn't look like that, yours looks more historic than mine. Not sayin' yours is wrong, mine could very well be.

It's Blue Flag, an Iris that grows primarily near water. I have a lot of them, and they appear to have been snatched from the lake-sides near where I live. They spread a lot, so you will want to thin them from time to time.

Nancy, after doing a little more research, I don't think mine are Feed Back. Feed Back are supposed to be a tall 36", while mine are short 24" - 30". So I am not sure what this iris is.

I really think mine should be right. Our local iris society has a display garden nearby, & when I go to look at their plants, & I do almost every year, I try to compare the ones in my garden to theirs. I get so many from trades, I like to be sure of the names. I know they have Feedback & I think I would have noticed if it were "off", but maybe not. I'll have to double check next year, too late this year. I think my Feedback may still have a bloom or 2, but their garden is a little ahead of mine.

Thanks for all the replies! I tried to choose a photo that is pretty true to life, color-wise. I will have to go out and measure the stems. It has quit blooming for the season so I'll have to sort of guess at the height of these irises. I should have done that before when there were still blooms on it. It's definitely not Blue Flag. This is a bearded iris, I'm just not sure of whether it's tall or medium. After looking around some, I found an iris that it could be...Stellar Lights which is dated back to 1988 so this one is a possibility. I've been trying to remember if my iris is a rebloomer, which Stellar Lights is. It seems to me that I have seen blooms in the later summer. I appreciate all your help! Thanks a million! Ginni

It isn't stellar Lights, unless it looks a lot different in person. I don't have Stellar Lights, but our local iris society has it. The shape of it is completely different, & Stellar has a patch of white under the beard. I think yours is much older.

Oh, okay...thanks, Nancy! I was just going by the pictures I saw, and mostly the color. Now that I look at photos of Stellar Lights, I see that it's more modern and more ruffly. Ido think I remember it reblooming tho. I wonder if that helps in I.D.ing it. Did they even have any reblooming older irises? Maybe I'm not remembering right.

Well, I think we have a winner! I just braved the cold morning (49° here in Illinois this morning) and went out and measured the stems and they were 21" tall. So if you add a bloom on top, it would probably make it to 24". They seemed taller to me. Anyway, I do think you may be right about this iris being Eleanor Roosevelt, Nancy! I'm going to call it good! I'm making a name stake for that one right now! Thank you soooooo much!!

Eleanor Roosevelt is a great rebloomer. I remember at one time having another one that looked just like it, seems like it was called Black Magic or something like that, but it didn't rebloom. I used to have Eleanor, I think I accidentally gave it all away. I'm not into historics, but those fall blooms are great.

Well, that would be this one for sure then! I thought I remembered it blooming in September last year but I didn't keep my garden diary up very well, I'm doing better at that this year...thus the driven need to I.D. all these NoID irises around here! I sure appreciate your comments and help and putting a name to my iris!

I think mine might be the crimson king... it is REALLY deep purple. (top pic was in reallllly bright light so bleached out a bit)

Eleanor Roosevelt and Crimson King are both IBs (under 27 inches) and both are rebloomers. There are many pics online and unfortunately some are not correct. They are easily mixed up.

Julie, your iris has a great deal of bronze showing on the beard. That is not a match for either Eleanor or Crimson :-(
