I'm going crazy!
Comments (17)To CorpsmanCooper: It's been years since I went to Springfield Nursery, but when I went, I got the impression that it is geared to commercial landscapers. I went to Calos Nursery, too...just once. At least they have some interesting statuary. Certainly Walmart doesn't sell a huge concrete triceratops. :-) I've ordered plants online with mixed results. I have two grape vines which grow vigorously and produce lots of grapes every year regardless of whether I care for them at all. But I have no idea what they are, since they are definitely NOT the ones I ordered. They do make tasty jelly, though. On the other hand, I also got my Dorsett Golden and Anna apple trees online, and they have been great. I've gotten other plants that did well, and others that were DOA or died quickly. (Some probably died to my mistakes.) Generally I have had good luck with seed orders. I've always had high germination rates and never had anything obviously mislabeled. To Kayjones: I'd like to know about your local nursery haunt, too. With 4 kids (3 in school + a preschooler), going to out of town nurseries is a rare thing for me. I'm really interested in finding a good local place....See MoreBlood on Eggs - Normal
Comments (8)Forgot to mention....I have a baffle but no spooker. Haven't seen Sparrows here in the yard (they hang out at the grocery store and fast food restaurants). I watch for them though. Watch for wrens too, but only have Carolina Wrens. The only birds that hang out much in the backyard are Robins, Woodpeckers, a very noisy Flicker, Titmice, and Thrashers. Later in the summer the Mockingbirds will be back there. OH, and bluejays. Also, squirrels, a raccoon, and a chipmunk. We also have three hawks that live nearby and I see frequently. They worry me the most but don't seem to visit the backyard much...it's easier to pick off the mourning doves in the front yard. If I ever see any sign of a HOSP I'll make sure a baffle goes up. And I watch the birds around here a LOT. Thanks again for asking though. tara...See MoreClean Tile? Looks Can Be Deceiving :(
Comments (3)the 50/50 "homebrew" I learned about here in 2002 has been my go to cleaner ever since. It "appeared" to be doing an excellent job on my tile floors. Honestly, I thought all I needed was the steam cleaner. I just use the added alcohol for extra cleanliness. I've never used ammonia to clean with....See MoreFrost damage is deceiving, and I keep forgetting that
Comments (4)I don't see anything dead in my garden or on the property. Those that froze back are putting out new growth. Even the Impatiens and geraniums came through the 26F night. A little frost nipped but quite alive. The cannas and bananas look really bad but new sprouts are coming up around the main stalks....See Morealoebot
