The Bissell Flip It Select with the heater. It's the first cleaner I've had in 10 years that cleans my Pergo floors without leaving water marks and believe me, I've tried everything. It's a little tricky on tile because the grout lines make it hard for the machine to suck the water back up. It just takes a little practice though.

I was just checking out a product called Mannington Adura; a luxury vinyl that is installed in 6, 12 or 16 inch 'tiles'. I was curious about heating the floors and the man at the store said you could lay heating mats with these vinyl tiles. By the way they are thick and not floppy like you might imagine vinyl to be. I really don't know much more about this product but I really like the look (like real stone) and the fact that you don't have to have grout and it feels much nicer than tile or stone. So this is a product you may want to check out.

Kitchen 20 x 26 or about 500 sq. feet unfinished oak regular do it all yourself flooring at Menard's last year $1.71/square foot but there were about two or three bundle-worth of bad boards so we bought about another 40-50 square feet later. Add to that the cost of feeding a work crew, renting the nailer, buying nails, etc. and buying the poly coatings. Haven't put in mouldings yet. Lobby area 10 x 26 was $1 square foot remaindered porcelain floor tile, plus cost of orange crack barrier, whetsaw rental, a few trowels, underlayment, thinset, grout, and silicone goo for perimeter.

And you can pretty much treat it as a neutral. Although it's dominating the room now, by the time you get your furniture in place and maybe a rug, it will fade into the background.
