We run into this often. Customers with pets notice it most. If you use a product like Mop&Glow or Orange Glo, they leave a very small amount of finnish on the flooring each time you clean them. this makes it shine but it also builds up and your pets claws scratch and flake it off over time. This ends up making the floor look awful. Stay away from these type of cleaners. Your floors don't need them. If you are getting a build up, you are stuck striping it off the floors. Kelly, I think the table would look much better on my porch. :) Those are perfect color combinations too. It won't get rained on will it? I have two recent spots in my home. Now that the sun is shining through the windows again I love looking at my utility room in the afternoons. It also makes a nice plant hospital for the other plants in my house in case they get sick. Not a good picture because of the shadows on the shutters. They look really dark in this picture, but they're a light cream. Below is the lamp I bought specifically for the sofa table, but stupid me forgot how dark shades give off poor light, even though this is a 3-way. But the lamp found a new home in a small corner in the living room and it's perfect there. The area really highlights the embroidery on the shade. You can't tell from this picture but the two walls are only about 3 feet wide, which makes it a fun and difficult spot to decorate.

Hardwater will eventually cause issues, using it for weekly cleanings you probably wont notice the effects for years, but there will be effects. you dont have to go as far as distilled but if you dont have a way to filter your tap water, a cheap gallon of drinking water will work too, but i honestly think you dont have to, if you are only using your hard water on the floors once a week and in a lightly damp mopping then you should be okay. as far as chemical cleaners, go to your local grocery or walmart and see what they have, just read the bottle carefully, stay away from things that say it will bring back your shine, make sure it doesnt contain polishes or wax or oils. Ph Neutral floor cleaners are out there. and you dont have to use them once a month, in fact if you can get by using it once every 6-8 weeks even better, but it all depends on the amount of traffic your floors get.

I LOVE this stuff. Non-toxic, not hard on hands, smells slightly minty. No fumes. It seems to kind of seal and prevent spots for quite a while. You have to rub it on, but hard scrubbing isn't necessary. I found it when I got a free sample from Ace Hardware...I think they sell it, too, but I ordered from the company. I believe they have a free sample available on their website.
