Worst companion plants

There are lots of perennials that pig out when given access to rose-level watering and fertilizing. For example, shasta and ox-eye daisies grow way too tall and floppy. But no real harm done. On the other hand, some plants are the stuff of nightmare in a rose garden. What were your worst mistakes? Mine--

1. Mexican primrose. By only the second season after setting out a single small plant, I realized that this delicate-looking item, once in the garden, is the horticultural equivalent of a panzer regiment let loose on the plains of Poland. I dug them all up, but next spring there were more than before. Every little bit of root left in the soil quickly becomes a plant. To get rid of them, I had to dig the area and sift the soil a handful at a time.

2. Perennial hollyhock. The powerful roots strangled everything in the vicinity. I don't know where it got all that energy, since the leaves had more flea-beetle holes than tissue, and the remaining tissue was covered with rust.

3. Monarda. Shaggy roots like giant centipedes quickly run 6-8' from the crown.
