Need help identifying this grassy weed in my lawn

I live in Idaho and would like to know what this is in my lawn. It looks like grass but it's hard and grows faster than my grass. I have an area where it is pretty thick. Thanks in advance.

Looks like clumps of fescue (in bluegrass lawn?). If so, in the fall kill with glyphosate and reseed.

Yes, I believe it is Kentucky Blue Grass. Thank you for your reply. Once I kill it do I need to dig them our or just reseed on top of them.

Doesn't look like nutsedge - think of nutsedge as looking like baby corn stalks - they don't "spread out", which looks like what's happening in your lawn. Maybe it's baby crabgrass? Can you post a more close-up picture? --Gags

I'm not really a lawn guy. I spend more time trying to kill bermuda so it isn't growing around my fruit trees. But here is my 2 cents. not sure about which kind of weed it is, there are a few kinds of grass and even sedge can look like that. The best way to get rid of it is to get your bermuda growing better. Bermuda is a very agressive crowder and will crowd out the weeds if it is growing strong and mown regularly. You may need a bit more water, and put down a light feeding. (not to much in this hot weather)

I'm certainly no expert, but I know you can get a clue if you look at the shape of the stem between where the roots begin up to where the leaves branch out. If it feels triangular or some other shape that helps to narrow it down. You can find information for weed ID on sites like: http://weeds.cropsci.illinois.edu/weedid.htm I think it is a slow day in the forum. I'm sure you'll get some good replies tomorrow.

Shaving it off and turning the soil would give you the best soil contact and germination with the new seed.

Most all lawn seed mixes I have seen contain some Kentucky Blue Grass, some kind of Fescue, and some Perennial Rye and some even have annual bluegrass.

Glyphosates will kill everything it is sprayed on and is considered by the World Health Organization as a potential carcinogen, probably not the best material to use to kill plants.

Fescues are fairly wimpy and covering them with an impervious (sunlight proof) covering for a couple of weeks will kill them and allow reseeding right away, something plant poisons may not allow.
