Veteran's Honor or Chrysler Imperial?
Comments (14)I have both VH and CI and if I had to pick one, it would be VH hands down. I have (2) VH's, one in the ground and one in a container. They both produce a ton of blooms and both have a fruity scent, while not overwhelming, definately noticeable. Compared to CI, the VH blooms have better form, and last much longer. The blooms on my CI tend to 'purple' after a few days while the VH holds it's brilliant red much longer. I also planted a FireFighter last fall, but it hasn't bloomed for me yet. The VH's are also the most vigorous of the three so far this spring. My VH's are already producing buds, but the CI and FF are still waking up. I added the FF after hearing it was very similar to VH in bloom form, but with a stronger scent. Hope to be able to confirm that this summer. Here is a pic of my container grown VH from last summer....See MoreChrysler Imperial,Veterans Honour and Crismon Glory roses
Comments (9)Can't speak to Chrysler Imperial, but I have Oklahoma and a couple of Mister Lincolns - those three are sort of the vintage trifecta of Hybrid Tea Reds. Veterans Honor I planted new this year (felt like I needed more reds). So far, it appears to be the best red I've ever seen. The bush is already about 5 feet tall from a bare root in spring. Flowers are huge with perfect exhibition form and no blushing/bluing at all. Of course, the only minus is no scent. If it had that, IMHO, it might be the best red, ever, period. Crimson Glory is a rose I'll never be without. It may have the finest fragrance of any hybrid tea in existence. Flowers are good size, with absolutely velvet substance. However, the bush and flower stems do not meet modern exhibition standards. Stems are very short, weak, and the flowers knod over on a regular basis. The bush is more old-rose style - it's rambling and perhaps wider than tall, growing very much like a hedge. However, that fragrance is unbeatable, strong, and consistent....See MoreChrysler or Veteran?
Comments (5)tbult, We have 3 Veteran's Honors, but no Chrysler Imperial. Your picture was kind of small for me to see, and I know that reds are hard to photograph. Our VHs are a true bright red, no blue tones whatsoever. They have a definite raspberry koolaid type of smell for us. Don't know if this helps...you could go to helpmefind.com and see if any of the pictures look familiar. Hope this helps. Phyl...See MoreVeteran's Honor
Comments (6)I have two of this great rose. I have a gafted one on Dr. Huey and an own root "New Generation". Both were purchased from J&P. I purchaesed the grafted rose in 2004 and the own root in 2005. The own root is by far the better rose as it grows more vigorously and blooms more and with better fragrance than the grafted rose does. I don't know why, but it is just that way. This is the best red rose of all time IMO. What other red compares to it over the long haul??? None that I can think of. Ingrid Bergman, Beloved, Olympiad, Mr. Lincoln, Let Freedom Ring, Pride of England, Dream Scarlett, Liebeszauber, and Royal William are close in some ways, but not as a whole rose,--nope, no cigar..I grow them as well JOhn...See MoreMarigold33 NY-Z7
