Cute suggestion with Hallmark, but "Hallmark, Hallmark, come Hallmark" doesn't seem to roll off the tongue quickly. She's a girl so maybe Hollie, sounds Hall. LOL The mom's name is Butter because my husband got fed up with me trying to find the perfect name for her. I said to him, "No way am I calling her Butter, that sounds so stupid." I call her Butter. LOL

pllog, believe it or not goats can be very chill and they are for the most part excellent mothers. Every single one of the goat births I've been present for, the moms all like me to gently pat them and talk to them. Not all goats like this, but I think with smaller hands on herds it is more the norm. So they also like affection and "encouragement" just like humans.

That's a great picture. Congratulations, Butter, and Littlemonkey too! I did the 23andMe test a year or so ago.

Alisande going off topic, but did you like the 23 and me? I joke to my husband all the time that I think I've got a fair amount of neanderthal DNA in me, so this should be fun to see. I'm short, but have a super strong body, should have been a gymnast. ;)

I'm also interested in some of the health tests. I'm type O blood which it supposed to put you at a higher risk for stomach ulcers. I've had issues with them for ages. Off topic again, but if anyone suffers with them, try kefir. I am now a covert, don't have issue anymore. I think the good bacteria helps keep the h-plori in check. I also have stomach and colon cancer on both sides of my family and found genealogy records of bowel cancer and stomach cancer from family members born in the 1800's (died in early 1900's).

littlemonkey, in keeping with the Hallmark idea, and seeing as your little kid is a beautiful baby girl, why not Halli? (I personally love the name Holly, as well.)

Mom and baby are on the short list for ones that are finding a new home this year so I'm not overly worried about a name. We have to downsize and sell some of them so PITA's get to go before my favorites. The mom was super precocious as a baby. She'd escape under gates, constantly want attention, jump on your back every time you bent down. LOL Now she's still friendly but if she doesn't want to do something forget about it. Most of my goats will walk beside me if I hold them by the collar. This gal will not move. She was 70 lbs at 5 months old and I would have to pick her up and carry her because she would not come. She's somewhere in between the "can't wait for you to find a new home" and "never getting rid of you". I'll likely wait until the end of summer so baby gets a chance to grow and be with her mother for a longer time since you never know what the new owner will do.

One of my best surprise gifts ever was to be given the honor of naming a baby goat. I named her Millie, and she is now a mom herself. My friend has a herd of goats. Very sweet photo!

Imhappy&Iknowit IOWA zone 6b I'm in Canada, they are allowed to here. Though only some of the result are "true" results since not all of the illness they show can actually get tested through DNA.

As for the Neanderthal dna, not sure what you mean by your comment or why you think you'd start a war. I did click on your link but it takes me to a google search. I do actually find all this stuff interesting and have done quite a bit of research into it.

Georgysmom, we did think of Marki after the Hallmark suggestion. :) I do tend to prefer names that end in a "ee" sound. I feel like they respond better or it rolls off the tongue more smoothly.
She's a very, very chill little girl. I usually like to see their personality a bit before pick out a name. Yesterday I had her and the mom in the barn in the morning and set down two bins of hay for the mom. The baby went and laid down around the far bin where the mom couldn't see her. Butter was SCREAMING for her baby and the baby just laid their quiet. I kept repeating to Butter that the baby was right there, but she didn't get my words and pointing gesture. Finally fed up of her freaking out I went into the pen, picked up the bin and set it on the other side of the baby. LOL

If that wasn't bad enough, I let the two of them outside with the rest of the crew late afternoon. My husband was bringing them in and Butter once again starts freaking out and screaming over and over again for her baby. The baby was right behind her and didn't make a peep. Haha This darn girl is already torturing her mother.

Well this adorable little rascal has decided she only wants to nurse on one side. I had to milk the one side today because it was pretty engorged. Looks like I'm going to be milking one side while baby nurses the other. This is going to make for a pretty lopsided udder. :( We've never had this happen before so hopefully we don't get issue with mastitis from it.
On a postitive note, Butter's udder is one of the best we have and good teat size too. Her mom and grandmother both have very small teats so milking them can be a PITA even though I do still milk them. So Butter has moved a little closer to the stay list. It's so hard to decide, because most have such great personalities that you want to keep them forever. I just wish we had endless supply or space and money. Instead of a crazy cat lady, I could be a crazy goat lady.

So baby is still nameless. Right now she's B.B. which is short for Butter's baby. I tried Halli and it just doesn't suit her. Marki does a bit, but I envision Markie Post (sp?) with that so I'm still not committed. She has become a bit of a house goat. She follows us everywhere. Her and her mom are staying. We decided on the ones that are going and have someone supposed to pick them up this week. They came to check them out on Sunday. It's very sad because you do get attached, but they just multiply too quickly. My husband's favorite will be going since he's the realistic one that says we can't keep accumulating them, not enough space in winter and they cost too much money. Blah, blah, blah. I hate when he's right. Now that I am milking Butter everyday I think I'm going to get back into cheese making. I didn't do any last year at all. I also have 2 others that I'm thinking of weaning their boys from, but not sure if I want that much work 2x a day. We'll see.

Cheese! I love making cheese and have to buy the milk. If you don't need all your milk fresh, I vote for cheese! (Like you need one more thing to do...)

Ah, cheese comes ahead of fresh milk anyday in my book. I think when the new fence is finally up and the garden is in I should have some time for cheese. It's so easy too, just wish the hard stuff didn't take so long to age. As an aside, my husband assured me last night that the fence was working again. This morning I let out my least favorite goat (we won't tell her that) and stood her next to the fence. She pulled away so I thought she got a shock. I let my next least favorite out and double check and I wasn't sure, she didn't seem to really react. I watched them and sure enough they took off through the fence. The darn thing is still not working correctly. I did manage to wrangle them and put them in our outdoor pen but it's getting to be a PITA. Goats everywhere.
