Ipomoea acuminata [Indica] aka Morning Glory - Can I control it?

I purchased a Morning Glory from Home Depot with the intention of training it up a trellis made of galvy, braided wire. The goal is to have a "living ceiling" if you will. I chose the MG b\c it's known to grow fast with attractive flowers.

My wife is showing me an endless barrage of information about how invasive and just plain uncontrollable this plant is.

Fast growth always comes at a cost!

Can't I control it growing out of this pot? I don't fully understand this re-seeding claim. Will it sends seeds everywhere and start growing in the planter where my Ficus is growing?

Am I being naive in thinking that I can keep it "in check" by pruning and cutting? I thought that by keeping it in a pot I'd be relatively safe.

All I've heard is gloom and doom about this plant. Are there no success stories? I'm reluctant to abandon the idea but if the evidence is there I'll heed the warning.

PS. mind the untidy Ficus. It's in need of a trim :)
